Breakdown of #19 Warren Township (Gurnee) vs #12 New Trier (Winnetka) tonight:

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Jaxson Davis of Warren Township (6’1” freshman point guard) vs Christoper Kirkpatrick of New Trier (6’2” sophomore point guard).

Two of the top young point guards in the area. Both play beyond their years and are three level scorers. Davis is better at finishing at the rim, Kirkpatrick is the better three point shooter. Both are great at running their teams for being so young. Whomever controls tempo the best their team will win.

Braylon Walker of Warren Township (6’2” sophomore guard) vs Colby Smith of New Trier (6’2” junior combo guard).

I say Smith has the advantage here as he’s really a second point guard who can also score from all three levels. Walker is a gifted scorer and playmaker just inconsistent at this stage. Talent is there and will have to step up tonight.

Alex Daniels of Warren Township (6’5” senior forward) vs Logan Feller (6’4” senior wing) of New Trier.

Daniels will have to dominate the glass for Warren to take this one. He can step out and hit a three. Johns Hopkins commit Felder is an inside/out force that hits the glass and will have to at least stay even with Daniels.

Immanuel Brown of Warren Township (6’4” wing) vs Ian Brown (6’5” senior wing).

Immanuel plays inside/out and is more of a slashing wing. Hits the glass with his athleticism and will need to do a lot of it tonight. Ian is a Carnegie Mellon commit who’s a knockdown three point shooter from the corners. Hits the glass and will need to do so tonight.

Other key players: Javerion Banks (6’1” junior wing), Jack Wolf (6’4” junior wing) of Warren Township. Danny Houlihan (6’2” sophomore guard) William LeMaster (6’4” senior forward), and Maks Depalo (6’8” sophomore forward) of New Trier.

Banks is an athletic slasher who can hit a three, Wolf is a knockdown three point shooter. Houlihan is a lefty sniper from three especially the corners, LeMaster is a junk yard dog who battles on the glass, and Depalo rim protects and hits the glass.

I have New Trier winning because of home advantage and experienced players who have played in the state finals. Warren has not experienced that yet.
