As I suspected IHSA has shifted Sectionals and Supersectional Assignments around after being the same the last two years. Seems like this is a two year cycle for this. Here's my take:
CHICAGO (UIC) Supersectional:
Darien (Hinsdale South) Sectional:
Mount Carmel (Chicago) will be the favorite here, but lots of teams could upset the apple cart. Namely Lindblom (Chicago), Hyde Park Academy (Chicago), and DeLaSalle Institute (Chicago). Caravan are hosting a regional so should advance to sectional play. Winner of this sectional will be heavily favored at UIC Supersectional.
Oak Park (Fenwick) Sectional:
A number of teams could win this sectional. Start with the host Fenwick (Oak Park) along with Westinghouse College Prep (Chicago), and Walter Payton College Prep (Chicago). Winner will be a heavy underdog in UIC Supersectional.
SPRINGFIELD (BANK OF SPRINGFIELD CENTER) Supersectional:
Lincoln Sectional:
These are broken down into sub sectionals (Smh crazy)
Sub Sectional A:
Lincoln, Lanpher (Springfield), or Sacred Heart Griffin (Springfield) are likely favorites.
Sub Sectional B:
Bloomington, Danville, Central (Champaign), and Centennial (Champaign) are likely favorites)
Troy (Triad) Sectional:
Sub Sectional A:
Carbondale, Centralia, Mount Vernon likely favorites.
Sub Sectional B:
East St Louis lost a lot but is still the team to beat. Cahokia, Freeburg, and host Troy (Triad) could challenge.
HOFFMAN ESTATES (NOW Arena) Supersectional:
Arlington Heights (St Viator) Sectional:
DePaul College Prep (Chicago) was Class 2A champ last season. Moved up to 3A and returned a lot of guys so the favorite here. Host St Viator (Arlington Heights), Carmel (Mundelein), and Wauconda are threats.
Maple Park (Kaneland) Sectional:
Sub Sectional A:
South (Crystal Lake) is the favorite here. Marmion Academy (Aurora) is a dark horse.
Sub Sectional B:
Freeport, Boylan Catholic (Rockford) and Woodstock are favorites here.
OTTAWA (TOWNSHIP) Supersectional:
Harvey (Thornton) Sectional:
Brother Rice (Chicago) aka Recliner Boys and host Thornton Township (Harvey) are the favorites here. Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights), and Lemont are dark horses.
Pontiac Sectional:
Sub Sectional A:
A crime that defending champ Metamora and Richwoods (Peoria) have to face each other this early in the playoffs. They are overwhelming savories here. Morton though is a darkhosrs as they have beaten Metamora already.
Sub Sectional B:
Kankakee is favorite but this is host Pontiac's best team in years so look out for them.
This is absolutely ridiculous as only one of Brother Rice (Chicago), Thornton (Harvey), Metamora and Richwoods (Peoria) will head to Champaign. By rights two of these teams should be in Champaign.
