We also have top performances in the state tonight as both Warren Township (Gurnee) and Waukegan get knocked out of the playoffs tonight. Also controversial ending in Rock Island with Richwoods (Peoria) and Normal Community. Looked like a phantom foul committed on a three attempt by sophomore Amarion Smith-Holley of Richwoods at the buzzer. Here we go:

Game 1:

Fremd (Palatine) 74 Stevenson (Lincolnshire) 65:

Looked like Fremd might run away to a running clock in the first half, but Stevenson played better in the second half and cut the lead to as low as 11, but Fremd kept control leading wire to wire as senior Rafael Pinto starred and senior Illinois State commit Jordan Williams had a great all around game. Seniors Donovan "Donny" Williams and Rocco Pagliocca fell on their sword trying to will Stevenson to victory. Fremd led 16-12 at the end of first quarter, 41-20 at recess with a huge second quarter to put the game out of reach. Stevenson cut a little into the lead in the third quarter trailing 53-35 at the end of it. Fourth quarter they cut it to 11, but Fremd was never threatened.

Fremd (Palatine) ups it's record to 28-2 and advances to IHSA Class 4A Fremd (Palatine) Sectional title game vs Hersey (Arlington Heights).

Stevenson (Lincolnshire) ends season at 21-11.

Top performers:

Fremd (Palatine);

Senior Rafael Pinto 25 points 8 rebounds 3 steals

Senior Jordan Williams 24 points 5 assists 1 steal (Illinois State commit)

Senior Tommy Moffett 8 points 7 rebounds 1 steal

Stevenson (Lincolnshire):

Senior Donovan "Donny" Williams 23 points (5/9 3PT) 7 rebounds 5 assists 1 steal

Senior Rocco Pagliocca 23 points (4/10 3PT) 5 rebounds 4 steals

Junior Quinton Frakes 12 points 9 rebounds (6 offensive) 2 blocks

Hersey (Arlington Heights) 64 Palatine 50:

Great third quarter scoring duel between Charlie Pomis of Hersey and Illinois football commit Tony Balanganayi. Pomis was scoring from everywhere, Balanganayi was scoring over left and right shoulder, spin moves in the paint. First half was even in both quarters, 10 all at end of first quarter, and 24 all at recess. Third quarter Pomis scored 19 points (4 threes) and mid range jump shots. Balanganayi scored 13 points, but Hersey led 44-41 after Pomis hit a three at the third quarter buzzer. Fourth quarter Hersey got some seperation with scoring from 5 players, while Palatine besides Balanganayi only senior Abram Williams scored 2 points. Ruined a round three showdown of Fremd/Palatine. Instead a third matchup between Hersey and Fremd. Fremd won first two, the second one in four overtimes. Should be a doozy on Friday.

Hersey (Arlington Heights) ups it's record to 21-7 and faces the aformentioned Fremd (Palatine) for a third time in IHSA Class 4A Fremd (Palatine) Sectional Final.
