Ridiculous shooting by Embrey and all around excellence by senior guard Latrell Kelley leads Farragut Career Academy (Chicago) to Central (Joliet) Supersectional on Monday. Plus buzzer beaters, upsets, and overtimes all over the state. City champ goes out, Kankakee is upset by Morton, and Hersey wins in double overtime on the road at Fremd (Palatine). Here we go:
Farragut has been under the radar all season as has their star point guard Latrelle Kelly. Kelly has been a consistent performer his entire high school career. Started at Farragut, left and went to Chi Prep Academy (Chicago), then came back to Farragut. A very underrated point guard in his class and was good again tonight, but Embrey was the show. Had 18 first half points on 4/5 from three point range. That was very good, but the third quarter he went NUCLEAR and broke the game open. Had 9 points in the quarter to help extend the lead and Perspectives MSA called timeout. They were not threated as the lead only got as low as 11 the rest of the game. Perspectives led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, but Farragut took a 32-29 lead into recess. Latrelle Kelly kept attacking the rim and putting pressure on the Perspectives defense, though he only went 1/7 from the field in the quarter (I thought he was fouled on a couple of those drives but wasn't called). It loosened upthe defense for baskets from Embrey and a couple of other teammates. Farragut had an 18-10 edge in the third quarter for a 50-39 edge. Sent the lead to as much as 18 in the fourth quarter, but 11 was the closest Perspectives MSA could get. Farragut was outrebounded 36-21 for the game but their shooting kept them with a big lead. Perspectives MSA star senior Tyshawn Marble was bothered by foul trouble all night and scored only 10 points.
Farragut Career Academy (Chicago) ups it's record to 10-14 playing a tough Chicago Public League Red Schedule. Advances to IHSA Class 2A Central (Joliet) Supersectional vs fellow West Side Chicago Public League Red foe Crane Medical (Chicago).
Perspectives MSA (Chicago) ends season at 17-16.
