Top 10 players in Chicago Public League for 2026-2027 season!!!

This could change as more transfers c ome to light. These are the 10 for now. Class of 2027 unless otherwise noted. Index: KING OF BOUNCE = Big time bounce or leaping ability, will dunk on you at a moments notice. Here we go:

1) JAMIER MONTGOMERY, CRANE MEDICAL: 6'2' combo guard is a Kent State (Division One) commit and will have the top spot. Top player in the Chicago Public League. Nicknamed "Mitty" for me it's an honor to his midrange game. Could lead the state in scoring this coming season. Highly skilled with the ball in his hands, has it on a string. Can get where he wants off the dribble, improved three point shot, and attacking game to the rim in the last year or so. Had a great spring playing for Young N Reckless (IL) on the RecruitLook Circuit. Shot about 70% from the field in July, just insane efficient scoring. Using less dribbles to get his shot off, and the nasty mid range pull-up jumper freezes defenses. Improving defender who gets steals with quick hands or off the ball. Top 10 player in senior class in Illinois.

2) DAMARI STEPHENS, KENWOOD ACADEMY (CHICAGO): 6'4" combo guard is a big bodied attacker downhill who uses his strength to finish through and around contact. Scores in the mid range with a pull-up jump shot. Defends a number of positions on the perimeter using his body to keep players in front of him. Hits the defensive glass well. Pushes it in transition and finds shooters on the perimeter as well as on lob plays. Played travel ball for Zero Fears Adidas Gold.

3) JAYDEN TAYLOR, PERSPECTIVES LEADERSHIP (CHICAGO): 6'2" combo guard is a gifted scorer in halfcourt or in transition. Explosive off the bounce getting to any spot he wants on the court. Three level scorer who can hit a three off the catch, get into the lane and create for himself or others. Nice body to finish through defenders as well as around them with Euro steps at the rim. High IQ to get teammates involved on offense, as well as a willing defender on and off the ball. GPA of 3.2. Uses change of speed as well as handle to get where he wants on the court. Played for Chicago Demons on New Balance P32 Circuit.

4) JORDAN WORDLAW, DUNBAR (CHICAGO): 6'4" wing who's a serious King of Bounce. Big time scorer from 15 feet and in. Gets to the basket off the bounce specifically from the wing in halfcourt or in transtion. Once he gets a step to the basket watch out, could be an embarrassment for the defender. Good three point stroke from the perimeter. Guards all 5 positions on the high school level, moves his feet well to stay in front, and will block (wipe) your shot out of the sky. Shows a nice Euro step in the lane to score as well. Can post him up on the block in certain mismatches. Played for Zero Fears Adidas Gold (IL).

5) OSIRIS BELL, KENWOOD ACADEMY: 6'3" point guard missed the entire summer with an injury. Could move up on this list during the season. Does a little bit of everything. Three level scorer can explode to the rim and finish in a variety of ways. Hanging shots, Euro steps, and finishing through contact. Defends all perimeter positions.

6) JOSHUA PEGUES, CORLISS: 6'3" combo guard has a big time package (bag) in his offensive arsenal. Double/double machine as he gets double digit rebounds consistently. Hits threes off the catch and the bounce, attacks the rim and scores mostly around contact with a Euro step, or physicality through contact. Defends all perimeter positions. Played for Old Gold (IL).

7) DARRIN “DJ” LAYE, MARSHALL: First underclassman on this list. Class of 2028 6’1” point guard is an intense intelligent player. Defends at a high level forcing opposing guards into mistakes with his pressure. Gets steals with quick hands or in passing lanes. Scores on attacks to the rim through and around contact. Has a spin move that gets him loose for mid range jumper, fallaway, or straight up. Took over Class 1A State Title game in the fourth quarter with two end play. Willed his team to the title. Plays with Midwest Renegade 16U New Balance P32.

8) JACOB WREN, KING COLLEGE PREP: Class of 2028 6'4" combo guard could lead the Jaguars back to prominence though they are a young team. King of Bounce who consistently destroys opponents with his energy and quick jumping. Three level scorer who can hit threes off the catch or bounce, has a nice mid range floater. Blocks shots out of the sky especially off helpside. Scores at the rim, through, around, or just jumps over defenders and dunks over them. Plays for Nike Meanstreets EYCL. Brother JaKobe (Class of 2028) is very good as well.

9) TOBYUS BANKS, CURIE: 6'1" combo guard could move up on this list by the end of the season. Strong bodied player who can play point or the two spot. Scores from every level of the court, threes, attacking the rim either in halfcourt or in transtion. Nice mid range floater. Defends like a hawk using his strength and quick hands to get steals on or off the ball. Will rise for a big time power dunk in transtion running the lanes, or attacking off the bounce. Good passer up the court, and to three point shooters off penetration. Played a supporting role on Chicago Public League Red Champs last season. Look for role to expand. Played for Illinois Heat.

10) ZAIRE GREEN, WHITNEY YOUNG: 6'2" shooting guard fills it up from deep mostly from the corners. Athletic enough to get to the rim and finish through and around contact. Defends both guard positions, Had some explosive scoring games this summer playing for Chicago Demons on New Balance P32 Circuit.
