Bost Family Basketball Classic is New Trier (Winnekta) at Evanston Township every year. It's the Evanston end of it and tonight had a split. Evanston girls and New Trier boys were . As always this rivalry, the oldest in Illinois was entertaining. The stories on the Bost men will be posted here. Here we go:
GIRLS:
Evanston Township 48 New Trier (Winnetka) 38: It started out bad for the Wildkits as they fell behind 10-4 in first quarter and was still behind 20-17 at half. Then senior guard Ball State commit Zuri Ransom (5'10" combo guard) inserted herself into the game. She really did in the last 2 minutes of the first half, scoring, rebounding, and getting steals. She is the best talent on that court and it started to show. She was helped by senior teammate Kailey Starks (5'8" senior guard). Evanston outscored New Trier 14-4 in the third quarter to take a 31-24 lead into the fourth quarter and had control of the game from there. Senior guard Arianna Milam-Pryor had 8 points 6 rebounds 1 assist and 2 steals. New Trier was led by senior guard Sela Klein with 17 points 4 rebounds 1 assist. Senior guard Erin Floys had 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Evanston Township upped it's record to 8-3, 4-1 in Central Suburban South Conference, while New Trier dropped to 7-6, 2-3 in Central Suburban South Conference.
Zuri Ransom, 5'10" senior combo guard, Evanston Township. Ball State commit showed her all around game in this one with 16 points 10 rebounds (double/double) 2 assists and 5 steals. Filled out the stat sheet and hit some key free throws down the stretch.
Kailey Starks, 5'8" senior combo guard, Evanston Township. She attacked the basket for baskets at the rim and drew a lot of fouls, Scored 7 of her 15 points from the foul line. She also had 6 rebounds 1 assist 1 steal.
BOYS:
#15 New Trier (Winnetka) 50 Evanston Township 37: Led the game wire to wire. Trevians broke the game open in the third quarter by continually attacking the paint of the dribble and scoring at the rim. Their three point shots were not falling as they only hit 3 the entire game, two of them by game MVP sophomore Chris Kirkpatrick. New Trier led 12-3 at the end of first quarter, then Evanston came back with their defense to make it 18-14 deficit at halftime. Third quarter New Trier outscored Evanston 20-11 to make it 38-25 at end of stanza. That was pretty much game over as New Trier kept attacking the basket off the bounce. They only had 6 assists the entire game as Evanston didn't have help side defense to discourage these drives to the basket. Evanston did not shoot a good percentage the entire game which precluded any comeback attempt. Evanston was led by senior forward Morgan Brown with 12 points and 8 rebounds. New Trier upps it's record to 12-1, 3-0 in Central Suburban South Conference while Evanston Township drops to 9-3, 2-2 in Central Suburban South Conference.
Chris Kirkpatrick, 6'2" sophomore point guard, New Trier (Winnetka). He was named game MVP as he made a huge three in the fourth quarter to put it out of reach. One of the top sophomores in the state. He ended up with 15 points 2 rebounds 2 assists 1 steal and 1 block.
Logan Feller, 6'4" senior guard, New Trier (Winnetka). Carnegie Melon commit was in foul trouble but played through it to put together a good stat line. He had 5 of his 13 points from the free throw line. Added 5 rebounds 2 assists 2 steals.
William LeeMaster, 6'4" senior forward, New Trier (Winnetka). He did the dirty work once again inside. He had 10 points 8 rebounds 2 assists 2 steals and 2 blocks.
Top performances and stories:
#3 Thornton Township (Harvey) comes back from a 3 point deficit with 30 seconds left to beat #20 Kankakee by 1 point. Senior guard Isaiah Green gets the steal and passes to senior guard Meyoh Swansey for the game winning layup with 3 seconds left. Senior point guard Larenz Walters of Kankakee was able to get off a shot in the lane that hit off the backboard and bounced off.
Jack Hively of Byron tied single game record for steals with 9
