#13 Stevenson is a serious contender for the Class 4A State title. Yorkville Christian is a Class 1A school trying to make some noise in that classification. This looked like a mismatch on paper, and indeed it was. Stevenson jumped on Yorkville Christian early and often. Junior guard Evan Ambrose was a nightmare for the Mustangs with 3 steals in the first quarter. Yorkville Christian sophomore sensation guard Jaden Schutt was covered like a blanket all game. First it was senior guard John Ittounas in the first half holding him to 2 shots. Senior guard Matt Ambrose took over face guarding duties on Schutt in the second half. Schutt ended up with 8 points on 0-3 shooting from three point range and 2 for 5 overall. He did get fouled on a three point shot in the fourth quarter. Stevenson led 25-9 after the first quarter, then put it completely away in the second quarter outscoring the Mustangs 17-8 for a 42-17 halftime lead. Stevenson cruised from there to a running clock in the 4th quarter(30 point lead or more). The Patriots had 4 players in double figures led by senior forward Matt Kaznikov's 18 points, then Matt Ambrose 14 points, senior forward RJ Holmes with 12 points 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Ittounas joined the party in double figures with 11 points 8 rebounds. Special mention is given to Evan Ambrose who filled the stat sheet with 8 points 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Yorkville Christian was led by a great game from freshman guard Brayden Long with 22 points on 6 three pointers along with 3 rebounds. Schutt was the rebounding leader with 6. Stevenson ups it's record to 9-1 going into the Hinsdale Central Holiday Tournament next week. Yorkville Christian falls to 8-3 going into the Plano Holiday Tournament also next week.
