#3 Thornton Township 55 #6 Homewood Flossmoor 43!!!!!!!!!!

Homewood Flossmoor started out this game on the road up 9-0, timeout Thornton, then Thornton Coach Tai Streets gets a technical foul in the first quarter. Thornton came out ice cold to start the game. It seemed as if Homewood Flossmoor was going to run away with this one early and Thornton would suffer their first loss. The Vikings led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. Then the second quarter started, Thornton amped up the full court pressure and went on separate runs of 9-2 and 9-0 which ended the second quarter. Just like that Thornton led 28-26 at halftime and the Wildcats took it from there to a convincing 55-43 victory over a team that had won 11 straight games. In a word, this Thornton team is TOUGH!!!! I found out after the game most of these guys play football which explains their toughness. They started hitting some threes, crashing the glass on both ends, and frustrated Homewood Flossmoor senior star RJ Ogom into a technical foul at the end of the third quarter. Ogom ended up with 7 points and 4 rebounds guarded by senior guard DJ Williams who had a great all around game. He had 26 points on 6 three pointers, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Senior Demarco Minor has been solid all year and was no exception tonight as he had 14 points and 8 rebounds for Thornton. Thornton out rebounded Homewod Flossmoor 29-24. Senior guard Josiah Palmer led Homewood Flossmoor with 15 points, followed by senior guard Joel Watts who had 13 points. He had two three pointers from close to the half court stripe but did not do much else in the game. Junior forward Chad Readey had 8 rebounds for Homewood Flossmoor. This is my first time seeing Thornton this year, and they have a great chance of going to the State Finals with this team. They have 5 players who can spread the floor, attack the basket, hit threes, and use their quickness to kill you on the glass. They took apart an outstanding Vikings team and protected their home court. Thornton ups it's record to 17-0, while Homewood Flossmoor drops to 13-2 and had their 11 game winning streak end.
