Big time game tonight in Glen Ellyn. Glenbard West won the first matchup 42-40 at Hinsdale Central. Hinsdale Central got revenge tonight and control of the conference race. Plus top preformers from #1 Kenwood Academy (Chicago) vs #7 Lincoln Park (Chicago) on Thursday. Kenwood finishes undefeated conference season with Chicago Public League Red Shield Title. Here we go:
Hinsdale Central 54 Glenbard West 51:
First quarter:
Hinsdale Central came out hot and was on pace for a 96 point game. Went 10 for 14 from the floor and hit 4 threes in the quarter. Senior big man Tyler Thick had 10 points on baskets at the rim. Glenbard West was not bad hitting two threes in the quarter. Senior big man Logan Glover had 4 points. Hinsdale Central led 24-15 after one.
Second quarter:
Glebard West's 1-3-1 zone defense started taking effect as Hinsdale Central cooled off. Went 2 for 11 for the quarter only scoring 5 points in the quarter. Meanwhille Glenbard West put up 14 in the quarter as junior TJ Williams had 3 steals and three consecutive breakway dunks for 6 points. Glenbard West and Hinsdale Central were tied at 29 going into halftime.
Third Quarter:
Hinsdale Central stayed cold and it did not help that with 1:40 left in the quarter senior South Dakota commit Vincas Buzelis received a technical foul for hanging on the rim attempting to catch an alley oop dunk. Score was 36-35 Glenbard West at the time. Senior Drew Gacek scored 5 straight points hitting two technical free throws and a three off the inbounds for a 41-35 lead. Hinsdale Central only score 8 points in the quarter and was trailing 41-37 going into the fourth quarter. Junior Josh Abushanab of Glenbard West scored 7 of his 10 points in the quarter.
Fourth quarter:
Vincas Buzelis started scoring in the paint and had a nice dribble behind the back then hit a mid range shot in the middle of the fourth quarter. Senior Dillon Orozco hit a huge three to give Hinsdale a 50-47 lead with just under two minutes left. Orozco split two free throws with 1:15 left to go up 51-47. Abushanab missed a jumper, Hinsdale got the rebound and Dillon Dell was fouled. Split two free throws with 56 seconds left. Glenbard West scored a layup and called timeout down 51-49 with 50.9 seconds left. Timeout Glenbard West. Teylon Oriental fouls Eric Kozys of Hinsdale Central hits two free throws with 29 seconds left to fgo up 53-49. Michael Howell fouls Oriental on drive. No free throws. Oriental then scores on a drive to the basket 53-51. Timeout Glenbard West with 15.5 seconds left. Hinsdale Central ball. Oriental fouls Dell who splits two free throws. 54-51 with 15 seconds left timeout Hinsdale Central. Glenbard West's Bryce Huff misses a three, Buzelis rebounds and it's ball game.
