Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Benet lost 4 starters from last years Class 4A runners-up that lost only 2 games all season. They have reloaded with a young and talented team that played well together tonight. Here we go:

#5 Benet Academy (Lisle) 61 #24 St Patrick (Chicago) 39: Benet went on the road to a tough place to play and had an impressive blowout win. Led the game from wire to wire as they shot the cover off the ball from three point range against St Patrick's zone defense. Redwings hit 11 threes by 5 different players that hit at least one. Sophomore point guard Jayden Wright hit 5 threes for his 15 points. 4 of them were from the parking lot and 3 of them broke the game open in the third quarter. Benet led 12-5 after first quarter, 25-17 at half-time and 45-32 after three. Another talented sophomore wing Gabe Sularski filled the stat sheet with a double/double of 14 points 10 rebounds 3 assists and two steals. Junior wing Daniel Pauliukonis had 13 points on 3 threes 4 rebounds. Junior point guard Brayden Fagbemi had a nice stat line off the bench with 5 points 3 rebounds 7 assists 2 steals and 3 blocks. Yes he blocked three shots at 6'0". Sophomore 7 footer Colin Stack hit a three and ended up with 5 points and 4 rebounds. Stack is a cousin of former Benet star and NBA player Frank Kaminski. Ball popped all night as Benet made good passes against the zone and got quality looks at the basket. Benet also played good man to man defense to go along with their offensive balance. Senior AJ Thomas and junior EJ Breland tied for scoring honors with 13 for St Patrick. Benet Academy ups it's record to 9-0 4-0 in East Suburban Catholic, while St Patrick drops to 6-3 2-2 in conference play.
