One team leads the entire game though it was always tenuous and almost gave it away at the end but survives. An couple of upsets in the Chicago Area tonight. Here we go:
#6 Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) 40 North (Naperville) 39: In this DuPage Valley showdown Naperville North never led. They stayed in contact throughout the game in changing defenses. Played 1-3-1 zone, box and one, and I thought I saw a triangle and two for one possession (On Tyreek Coleman and Moses Wilson). Kept the game within 9 points the entire game. Naperville North's zone did the job in limiting senior Tre Blissett of Waubonsie Valley to 6 points. Waubonsie Valley played a 1-3-1 and 2-3 zone and their length helped them cover the shooters and get rebounds most of the game. Game was tied at 10 at end of first quarter, Waubonsie Valley led 32-30 at halftime and 42-36 after three. Waubonsie Valley led by as much as 9 early in the fourth quarter, then Naperville North called a time out. They proceeded to chip away and it stayed within 2-5 points for most o the fourth quarter. Naperville North had 4 fouls to give with about 30 seconds left in the game. They managed to foul enough to put Waubonsie Valley in the double bonus. Here's where things got crazy. Junior point guard Tyreek Coleman of Waubonsie Valley hit a three to go up 39-33 in the last minute. Senior Bryce Welch of Naperville North hits a three to cut the lead to 39-36. Senior Tyler Threat of Waubonsie Valley hits 1 of 2 free throws with 25.4 seconds left to go up 40-36. Sophomore Max Steele of Naperville North hits a three to cut it to 40-39 with 13.6 seconds left. There was a jump ball in the backcourt with 11.5 seconds left but Waubonsie Valley kept the ball. Naperville North fouled Coleman with around 6 seconds left. He missed both free throws, Naperville North gets the rebounds and gets the ball to Luke Williams, the Purdue football commit, who got into the lane and got a shot off that missed at the buzzer. Welch led Naperville North with 12 points 2 rebounds and 3 assists off the bench. Williams ended up with 11 points 6 rebounds 5 assists 1 steal and 1 block. Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) stays undefeated and ups it's record to 15-0, 5-0 in conference while North (Naperville) drops to 10-9, 2-3 in conference. Close for the upset but no cigar.
Tyreek Coleman, 6'1" junior point guard, Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) is one of the most underrated point guards in the area. You can't speed him up, he was a low turnover guard tonight, and can score at all three levels. He had 11 points (3 threes) 4 rebounds 2 assists 1 block.
Moses Wilson, 6'4" combo guard, Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) is a smooth operator moving through the defense to get to open spots. Long arms causes a lot of deflections in their zone defense. He had a few of them tonight. Stat line tonight was 10 points 2 rebounds 1 assist and 2 steals.
Tre Blissett, 6'5" combo guard, Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) did not get a lot of scoring opportunities tonight as I counted only 5 shots taken against the 1-3-1 zone. Stat line was 6 points 6 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal.
OTHER STORIES TONIGHT:
Braydon Murphy of East (Oswego) had a tip in at the buzzer to upset #8 Bolingbrook at home. They seem to have their number the last couple of years.

Lake Forest upsets #15 Warren Township (Gurnee) on the road
Crazy ending at the Guilford (Rockford) vs Auburn (Rockford) people running on the floor everywhere. Had to end the game with 47 seconds left with Guilford the victor. Hope everyone got out safe with no injuries.
