Aramis Brown Jr of Dyett's steal and assist clinch game between two Class 2A title contenders in back and forth game with Crane Medical!!! Top performances 9 JAN 2025!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

This was a big time game. Dyett (Chicago)'s deep team vs Crane Medical (Chicago) that went 8 deep. Here we go:

Dyett (Chicago) doesn't have a star per say. You can say maybe two in senior's Jayden McKinnon (6'4" wing) and Aramis Brown Jr (6'2" wing). They win with balanced scoring (9 players scored), and good guard play by multiple players. Crane Medical has three big time players in senior Treveon Hoskins (6'4" guard), sophomore Jamier Montgomery (6'1" guard), and junior Brad Blackman Jr (6'6" forward). This made for a close game down to the wire.

First quarter:

Dyett owned the quarter as they pushed the ball and made layups and a couple of threes in the quarter by junior Christian Lowe (5'9" junior point guard), Dillon Fountain (5'11" senior guard) and Aramis Brown Jr.. Crane went 3 of 12 for the quarter. Star Montgomery of Crane in particular came out cold with 2 for 6 shooting. Dyett led 17-6 at the end of the quarter.

Second quarter:

It was played even at 14 for the stanza. No one on either team hit a three in the quarter. Dyett kept their lead at 31-20 into the half. Dyett went into their bench in this quarter as 9 of the 11 players they played had gotten time in the half.

Third quarter:

Crane made some ground up here as they started to push the pace. Dyett pushed the pace with them but was not as effective scoring. Hoskins of Crane scored 9 points in the quarter to outscore Dyett 22-15. Dyett still led 46-42 and we have a game.

Fourth quarter:

Game stayed tight as Blackman of Crane started blocking shots all over the place. It was tough for Dyett to score in the paint, and they started turning the ball over. Crane finally hit a three which was by Hoskins to cut the lead to two points. They went 1 for 12 from three for the game. Senior Devon Shelton (6'1" guard) hit three of four free throws to help Dyett maintain the lead. Aramis Brown Jr spilt two free throws to make it 57-55 Dyett with 8 seconds left. Crane has the ball to tie it or take the lead, but Aramis Brown Jr intercepts the pass and passed ahead to a teammate for game clinching layup.

Dyett (Chicago): They have a good chance to get to Champaign. They played 11 players in this game, and are deep in guards who can handle, pass and shoot. They have some good size for Class 2A in juniors Johntae Duncan (6'5"), Jacob Johnson (6'5"), McKinnon (6'4"). Size at the guard positions in seniors Rickey Coleman (6'3") and Brown Jr (6'2"). They have dangerous defending Class 2A Champ Wendell Phillips Academy (Chicago) in their sub sectional.

Crane (Chicago) also has a good shot at Champaign, but their road is a little tougher than Dyett's. Their sub sectional includes Sectional host Christ The King College Prep (Chicago), and Michele Clark (Chicago). They do have a good big three in Hoskins, Montgomery, and Blackman Jr.
