I went to my first Battle of Skokie Niles West at Niles North. Niles North has a few sophomores in the starting lineup but one stole the show.
Niles North (Skokie) 77 Niles West (Skokie) 64: These schools are separated by 3.1 miles. It was a big crowd of students from both schools. There were some less tasteful cheering (it's a rivalry so to be expected), but sophomore point guard Yaris Irby stole the show. He transferred from Evanston Township in July and joined sophomores Reid Olson (guard), Hunter Gawron (forward) Dylan Lam (guard) and Kaiden Chatham (injured). They form a nucleus for the future at Niles North, but they say the future is now. Irby went out of the game in the first minute after gettin g hit in the mouth and drawing blood. He stopped the bleeding but came back into the game and made Niles West bleed. Like the incredible hulk you wouldn't like him when he's angry. Well didn't show anger, just came back in and torched Niles West. Irby had 20 point of his 38 points in the first half as Niles North took a 44-28 lead into halftime. Niles North still led by 14 at 58-44 at end of the third quarter. Niles West made a run in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 5, then Irby hit two huge step back threes in the middle of the fourth quarter to put the game out out reach. Irby hit 7 threes in the game. He was helped by Olson's 13 points, and Gawron's 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double/double. Niles West was led by junior point guard Davee Flowers who filled the stat sheet with 26 points 10 rebounds (double/double) 7 assists 5 steals and 1 block. He did everything he could to keep his team in the game while fighting through foul trouble. Junior guard Joey Pantazis had 17 points for Niles West. Niles North ups it's record to 7-1 while Niles West drops to 4-5.
