Benet was the 3 seed. Waubonsie Valley was the 2 seed. I thought the seeds should have been reversed when seeding came out. Benet proved me right tonight as it was a dominant preformance by them on the court. Best and most aggressive I've ever seen from Southern Illinois Carbondale commit Daniel Pauliukonis. Benet Academy shot 69% from the field in the game. Here we go:
LISLE, ILLINOIS: Benet Academy (Lisle) is hosting this sectional and they shot well tonight on their home court in this IHSA Class 4A Sectional Semifinal. They held Illinois State commit Coleman to 11 points on 5 for 14 shooting. Waubonsie Valley has now lost 2 games this season, both on this court. Lost to Marist (Chicago) at When Sides Collide.
Benet Academy (Lisle) 63 Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) 45:
First quarter:
Benet started the game on a 12-2 run. Waubonsie Valley ended it on a 10-4 run. Coleman actually started out shooting well in this quarter. Scored 7 of his 11 points in that quarter on 3/4 shooting. Benet though more than kept pace as Pauliukonis kept pace with Coleman in the scoring depertment. He scored 8 points in the quarter. Benet led 16-12 at the end of one.
Second quarter:
Benet started getting penetration into the lane and dropping off passes to 7'2" junior Colin Stack for buckets. He had 6 in the quarter. Senior Truman State commit Blake Fagbemi, and junior Jayden Wright were attacking off the bounce and creating baskets for teammates. Benet outscored Waubonsie 18-12 to lead 34-24 at halftime.
Third quarter:
Waubonsie Valley came out the locker room like gangbusters. They went on a 5-0 run as Josh Tinney hit a three and a two to start the third quarrter and cut the lead to 34-29. Timeout Benet. Then Benet comes out and pretty much puts the game away with a 12-0 run to take a 46-29 lead as Pauliukonis had 7 points in the quarter. Wright scored 5 points and outscored Waubonsie 14-10 to take a 48-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
Fourth quarter:
Waubonsie got as close as 12 points as they only scored 11 points in the quarter. Wright had 6 points in the quarter as did Stack. Senior Moses Wilson only had 2 points for the game on a nasty follow up dunk and fouled out in this quarter.
