Game was over in the first few minutes and Fremd (Palatine) stayed undefeated. Here we go:
#9 Fremd (Palatine) 71 Buffalo Grove 48:
Fremd jumped out to a 12-0 lead, Buffalo Grove calls timeout, but didn't get much better as Fremd led 27-6 after one quarter. Balanced scoring ruled the day as the big three all scored at least 9 points in first half. Meantime they surrounded star junior big man Alex Sirbu of Buffalo Grove. They always had a man in a half on him, and sometimes a striaight double before he catched the ball. Fremd mixed it up sometimes waiting till he caught the ball to double, or had a man ready to intercept the incoming pass. More than a few turnovers resulted, and Buffalo Groves guards couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from three. They shot 0 for 5 from three in the first half. Fremd led at halftime 42-21 as they played even for the quarter. Buffalo Grove cut the lead down to 14, but the Big Three closed shop. Senior Rafael Pinto hit a three, senior Tommy Moffett hit a three, then senior Illinois State commit Jordan Williams hit a three. Game over, any chance of comeback over. Fremd still led 54-38 at end of three. Benches cleared the last three minutes of the game. Fremd ups it's record to 6-0. Buffalo Grove drops to 3-3.
Top performances:
Fremd (Palatine):
Tommy Moffett 20 points 1 steal 1 block
Jordan Williams 15 points 9 rebounds 5 assists 1 steal
Rafael Pinto 14 points 7 rebounds
Buffalo Grove:
Alex Sirbu 12 points 8 rebounds
Junior Dylan Ronczkowski 9 points 3 assists 2 steals
Sophomore Edwin Karnauchovas 8 points
NOTE: Buffalo Grove has twin towers of Sirbu (6'9") and Nathan Freheit (6'11") both juniors. Tried a couple of times tonight to run high/low action. Worked a couple of times. Freheit's development could make these young colts a nice combination duo over the next two years. He has a nice left touch on his shot.
