This tournament annually at Rich South though it's been combined with Rich Township who host the tournament brings out the fans in the South Suburbs. It's always well attended and supported by the communities out there. Here we go:
FAVORITE: Hillcrest (Country Club Hills): This team lost some talent from transfers but still have enough left to be the favorite here. They have senior forward Akron commit Darrion Baker (6'8") who can play all over the court. The lead guard Bryce Tillery (5'10") has improved as an outside shooter which has open up his drive and dish game. Senior forward Quentin Heady (6'6") has stepped forward on both ends of the court. He guards the opposing teams best player and is scoring off the bounce and outside shot. Look out for senior wing Reuben Samuels (6'7"). Ranked 12th and only loss is to East St Louis by three.
SECOND FAVORITE: Hyde Park Career Academy (Chicago): Ranked 13th right behind Hillcrest. They are the defending champs and will not give up the crown easily. Are undefeated against Illinois opponents. Senior point guard Cam Wiliford (6'1") has had a fantastic senior year so far. His partner senior point guard Damarion Morris (5'10") has had some big scoring numbers this year. Junior wing Jurrell Baldwin (6'6") has been a double/double machine scoring inside and out.
DARKHORSE: Perspectives Leadership (Chicago): Now that their roster is settled look for this to be the tournament the team comes together. Junior guards Gianni Cobb (5'11") and Tim Handy (6'3") are developing chemistry. Cobb is more the scorer, Handy the assist man. Senior guards KJ Cobb(6'1") and JaKeem Cole are players who do a little bit of everything. Senior forward JK Woods (6'5") is a rim runner who can jump out of the gym and hit the glass. Rebounding will be key to how far of a run they make in this tournament.
DeLaSalle Institute (Chicago): Key is senior wing Evan Jackson (6'7") as he'll have to be consistently engaged on the court at all times. He has a good mid range pull-up jumpier and hits the glass. He'll have to be a leader for a young team who plays three freshmen in the rotation ( Charles Barnes (6'4"), Morgan Travis (6'0"), Remi Edwards (6'4") ) to make a run in the tournament. Senior point guard Anthony Davis (5'10") will have to also be a leader.
