Wild week!!!!! 6 of the top 10 lost a couple of them were match ups against each other so something had to give. War On The Shore and Orr Breast Cancer Shootout were great and changed the rankings a lot. Chicago Public League Playoffs start this week. It's been a bad two weeks for the Red Division with some losses to suburban teams. This week will be shorter write-ups because I was at the Breast Cancer Shootout late on Sunday. Here we go:
1) Glenbard West(Glen Ellyn)(4A)(24-0)- Had a tight game at Lyons Township which was 52-50 before 10-0 broke it open. Third time they have beaten them. It's been a big time ramble through a tough schedule this year. Plays Sierra Canyon(CA) and Bronny James on Saturday at Wintrust Arena.
2) Simeon Career Academy(Chicago)(3A)(20-2)- Won Red South and is ready for Chicago Public League playoffs. Senior guard Jaylen Drane will be key. Plays Coronado(NV) at UIC Pavilion on Saturday.
3) Hillcrest(Country Club Hills)(3A)(22-2)- Beat Wheaton Warrenville South today at Orr Breast Cancer Shootout on a last second blocked shot by junior forward Darrion Baker. Big game with Oak Forest this week. Plays #8 Kenwood Academy(Chicago) at UIC Pavilion on Saturday.
4) New Trier(Winnetka)(4A)(22-2)- Senior forward Jackson Munro has been an absolute monster on the court. Big wins over ranked Glenbrook South(Glenview) and Rolling Meadows gives them inside track for #1 seed at Glenbrook South Sectional. Has rival Evanston Township on Friday at Northwestern University and next Monday.
5) Glenbrook South(Glenview)(4A)(21-2)- Bounced back from loss to New Trier(Winnetka) at home for season split, by beating Loyola Academy(Wilmette) and Prospect(Mount Prospect). Nick Martinelli will have to pick his play back up to previous level. Plays #11 Curie(Chicago) at Wintrust Arena on Saturday.
6) Leo Catholic(Chicago)(2A)(15-3)- Beat Mount Carmel(Chicago) as JaKobe Cole has come up big lately.
7) Wheaton Warrenville South(4A)(23-2)- Moves up though they lost by 1 to #3 Hillcrest(Country Club Hills). This is a tough team to speed up and beat. Is a threat to make a deep run in state playoffs.
8) Kenwood Academy(Chicago)(4A)(18-6)- Lost to Yorkville Christian as they could not hit the broad side of a barn. Junior point guard Darrin "Dai Dai" Ames is back from a knee injury. He will have to be at his best for them to win the Chicago Public League Title. Plays #3 Hillcrest(Country Club Hills) at UIC Pavilion on Saturday.
9) Brother Rice(Chicago)(4A)(20-20- Junior point guard Ahmad Henderson has stepped up lately with his scoring. Big game at #6 Leo Catholic on Friday.
10) East(Oswego)(4A)(24-1)- Junior Mekhi Lowery has stepped up his game the last two weeks.
11) Curie(Chicago)(4A)(20-4)- Two losses this week to #2 Simeon Career Academy(Chicago) and Cardinal Ritter(St Louis,MO). Chicago Public League Playoffs this week. Plays #5 Glenbrook South(Glenview) at Wintrust Arena on Saturday.
12) Whitney Young(Chicago)(4A)(15-8)- Lost to undefeated Bishop Gorman(Las Vegas,NV) at Nike Extravaganza in California. Trip back home to get ready for Chicago Public League Playoffs this week.
13) Rolling Meadows(4A)(22-3)- Close loss to #4 New Trier(Winnetka) as junior guard Cameron Christie has consistently been hitting over 20 points a game all year. Looking for Mid Suburban conference title.
14) Mount Carmel(Chicago)(3A)(20-3)- Two losses this week to St Rita(Chicago) and #6 Leo Catholic(Chicago). Schedule does not get any easier with #15 DePaul College Prep(Chicago) on Tuesday.
15) DePaul College Prep(Chicago)(2A)(17-3)- Won both games last week but they have a tough #14 Mount Carmel(Chicago) team on Tuesday.
16) Michele Clark(Chicago)(2A)(16-3)- Ready for Chicago Public League Playoffs.
17) Lyons Township(4A)(18-4)- Three losses to #1 Glenbard West(Glen Ellyn) this last time was closer than ever. Very good team with senior point guard Akron commit Tavari Johnson.
18) Burlington Central(3A)(22-3)- Three wins last week and on their way to winning the Fox Valley Conference.
19) Thornton Township(Harvey)(3A)(15-5)- Back in the poll. Senior Illinois commit Ty Rodgers has had a double/double every game this season. Junior guard Vincent Rainey is a three point sniper.
20) Riverside Brookfield(16-4)- Seniors Joevonn McCottry and JP Handley are top notch guards.
21) Benet Academy(Lisle)(4A)(19-5)- Inside track to win the East Suburban Catholic.
22) Lemont(3A)(19-5)- Lost to Oak Forest but sophomore Nojus Industraitis is still on scoring tear.
23) Orr Academy(Chicago)(2A)(13-5)- Lost to U High today at Orr Breast Cancer Shootout. Senior Leontae Lilly will have to get this team together for a run at Chicago Public League Title and a 4th straight Class 2A State Title.
24) St Rita(Chicago)(4A)(16-7)- Tough schedule might help them in State Playoffs. Beat Mount Carmel last week. Sophomore big man James Brown has stepped up his scoring lately.
25) Christian(Yorkville)(1A)(13-12)- Probably the toughest in state schedule of any team this year. Beat #8 Kenwood Academy(Chicago) at Orr Breast Cancer Shootout. Duke commit Jaden Schutt is big time.
