Not many changes this week, but I do anticipate a lot of movement after the Sectional Games for Class 3A and 4A. Class 1A and 2A have Super Sectional Tuesday for the right to head to State Finals in Peoria. Bolingbrook drops out, Niles North will move in.
1) Bloom Township(Chicago Heights)(28-5): They are Sectional hosts this week and have to beat #20 Marian Catholic(Chicago Heights) for a third time on Tuesday in Class 4A Sectional Semifinal. The Battle of Chicago Heights is coming for a third and last installment for the season.
2) Thornton Township(Harvey)(31-1): They could have a shot at avenging their only loss of the season on Friday vs #1 Bloom Township(Chicago Heights) in Class 4A Bloom Sectional. They split the season series. That would be a #1 vs #2 battle. First they have to get by a tough #9 Homewood Flossmoor team on Wednesday in Sectional Semifinal, a team they have beaten once already.
3) Simeon(Chicago)(24-8): Breezed through their Regional. They have a tough Chicago Public League match up on Wednesday vs Whitney Young in Class 4A Lyons(LaGrange) Sectional Semifinal.
4) Curie(Chicago)(28-2): No problems in their Regional. Could have a revenge game vs #3 Simeon(Chicago) on Friday in Sectional Final, but have to win vs a tough Morton(Cicero) team on Tuesday at Class 4A Lyons(LaGrange) Sectional Semifinal.
5) Bogan(Chicago)(26-3): No trouble in their Regional. They play Tuesday vs Riverside Brookfield in Class 3A Hinsdale South(Darien) Sectional Semifinal. They could have a tough Sectional Final vs the host Hinsdale Central(Darien).
6) Loyola Academy(Wilmette)(29-4): Their tough defense clamped down on Maine South allowing only 25 points to them in Regional Final. They are the Top seed in the Sectional and have Niles North(Skokie) on Tuesday in Class 4A Elk Grove Village Sectional at Robert Morris University.
7) Evanston Township(28-4): They are not the Top seed in the Class 4A Elk Grove Village Sectional, but are the most dangerous team. They have #14 Glenbrook South(Glenview) in the rubber match on Tuesday at Robert Morris University.
8) West(Joliet)(28-4): With Bolingbrook getting upset, they are the overwhelming favorite in the Class 4A Lockport Township Sectional. Will the pressure of that get to this junior laden team? They play Tuesday vs Neuqua Valley(Naperville) and junior sharpshooter John Poulakidas.
9) Homewood Flossmoor(25-4): Easily won Regional. Will they get revenge vs #2 Thornton Township(Harvey) at the Class 4A Bloom(Chicago Heights) Sectional on Wednesday?
10) Notre Dame College Prep(Niles)(28-5): Breezed through their Regional. They play Tuesday vs Deerfield at the Class 3A North(Grayslake) Sectional Semifinal.
11) Morgan Park(Chicago)(21-9): Dominated in Regionals. They have a tough one on Tuesday vs #24 Hillcrest(Country Club Hills) at Class 3A Thornridge(Dolton) Sectional Semifinal.
12) Whitney Young(Chicago)(20-9): Was down at the half in their Regional Final vs St Rita(Chicago) before turning it on in the second half. Big one Wednesday vs #3 Simeon(Chicago) at Class 4A Lyons(LaGrange) Sectional Semifinal.
13) DePaul College Prep(Chicago)(26-5): Won their own Regional with ease. Junior guard Ty Johnson was outstanding though he got banged up. Word is he's fine and will play on Wednesday. They play the host Saint Ignatius College Prep(Chicago) at the Class 3A Saint Ignatius College Prep(Chicago) Sectional Semifinal.
14) Glenbrook South(Glenview)(29-4): Easily won their Regional. They have a rubber match with #7 Evanston Township on Tuesday in Class 4A Elk Grove Village Sectional Semifinal at Robert Morris University.
15) Stevenson(Lincolnshire)(27-4): Won Regional. They play a dangerous Zion Benton team on Tuesday at Class 4A Prospect(Mount Prospect) Sectional Semifinal.
16) Kankakee(26-4): Won Regional. They play #17 Oak Forest on Wednesday at the Class 3A Thornridge(Dolton) Sectional Semifinal.
17) Oak Forest(28-3): Won first Regional in 33 years. Can they handle playoff success in Sectional play? They play #16 Kankakee on Wednesday at the Class 3A Thornridge(Dolton) Sectional Semifinal.
18) Fenwick(Oak Park)(26-7): Won Regional. They play Tuesday vs Westinghouse(Chicago) at Class 3A Saint Ignatius College Prep(Chicago) Sectional Semifinal.
19) Mundelein(29-4): Won Regional. They play the host school Prospect(Mount Prospect) at Class 4A Prospect(Mount Prospect) Sectional Semifinal.
20) Marian Catholic(Chicago Heights)(24-8): Won Regional. They play the host #1 Bloom Township(Chicago Heights) at Class 4A Bloom Township(Chicago Heights) Sectional Semifinal. Battle of Chicago Heights gets it's third installment this season. Can the third time be the charm for senior guard Ahron Ulis and his teammates?
21) Cary Grove(30-3): Won Regional. They play Huntley at the Class 4A McHenry Sectional Semifinal on Tuesday. Big thing senior guard Beau Frericks being named to the Chicago Sun Times All-Area team on Friday.
22) Orr(Chicago)(21-7): Won Sectional with ease. The Super Sectional could be more dicey. They play fellow Chicago Public League Power Corliss(Chicago) on Super Sectional Tuesday at Class 2A Central(Joliet) Super Sectional. Can they make it to Downstate Peoria for a 4th straight time? They are hunting a fourth straight Class 2A State Title. They've beaten Corliss(Chicago) once already this season and three times over the last two. Can they stay being Corliss(Chicago)'s master?
23) Hinsdale South(Darien)(30-3): Won Regional. They play Benet Academy(Lisle) on Wednesday in Class 3A Hinsdale South(Darien) Sectional Semifinal as they are the Host.
24) Hillcrest(Country Club Hills)(23-8): Won their own Regional. Can they take down the Class 3A giant #11 Morgan Park(Chicago) on Tuesday? Game is at the Class 3A Thornridge(Dolton) Sectional Semifinal.
25) Niles North(Skokie)(27-5): Reenters the poll after beating Schaumburg on it's home court to win the Regional. They have Maryland commit senior guard Aquan Smart. They may not stay long as they have a tough test on Tuesday vs #6 Loyola Academy(Wilmette) in the Elk Grove Village Sectional at Robert Morris University.
