Big Tim's Elite 25 in Chicago Area Week 16!!!!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Sectional Champs were decided last night. We are now to Supersectional Tuesday, oops IHSA changed the games to Monday. Well not sure Supersectional Monday or Super Monday sounds the same. Anyway lots of movement and a couple of teams moving out and a couple coming in. Here we go: .

1) Glenbard West(Glen Ellyn)(4A)(34-1): Easily won their Sectional. First one since 2007. This is not unexpected. This team seems to be getting better and better with each round. Let's see how the 1-3-1 zone does on a college floor. I think the Sierra Canyon(CA) Game played at Wintrust Arena gave Coach Opoka a chance to make adjustments for that possibility. Rematch with Larkin(Elgin) whom they beat by 23 on their home court, while not playing well is next. Monday Northern Illinois University(DeKalb) Supersectional vs Larkin(Elgin).

2) Glenbrook South(Glenview)(4A)(33-2): The close call in Regional Final vs Niles North has focused this team. Won their own Sectional with a win over New Trier(Winnetka) as senior Cornell commit Cooper Noard redeemed himself for the bad game in the second matchup with 27. By the way won the Sectional Title for first time in school history. Monday vs Barrington in Forest View Educational Center Supersectional.

3) Whitney Young(Chicago)(4A)(24-9): City Champs did not have much trouble winning the Proviso West Sectional beating Lyons Township. Still alive for the double City State Title. Junior guard Marcus Pigrim has stepped up his game as he has needed to. Rubber match coming up Monday with #6 Kenwood Academy(Chicago) at University of Illinois Chicago Supersectional. Rematch of City Semifinal.

4) Leo Catholic(Chicago)(2A)(25-4): Had no problem winning Julian(Chicago) Sectional blowing out Longwood. Junior guards JaKeem Cole and Tyler Smith wreaking havoc on opposing backcourts. Have a chance for revenge against one of the few teams that has beaten them this season. That would be #7 Depaul College Prep and lost to them on their home court. Game is Monday at Central(Joliet) Supersectional. I believe the winner of that game wins Class 2A.

5) Simeon Career Academy(Chicago)(3A)(27-5): Owned Hyde Park Academy once again this time in Sectional Final. Focused now after regional final scare when a three pointer by St Laurence rimmed in and out. If that goes in their season is over. Three headed point guard combination of senior Jaylen Drane, senior Avion Morris, and junior Jalen Griffith are playing at a high level right now. Monday vs #12 Lemont at University of Illinois Chicago Supersectional.

6) Kenwood Academy(Chicago)(4A)(26-8): Won Thornwood(South Holland) Sectional vs St Rita(Chicago). First Sectional Title in school history. Junior point guard Darrin Ames knee looked healthy that game. They will need him full bore vs #3 Whitney Young on Monday at University of Illinois Chicago Supersectional.

7) DePaul College Prep(Chicago)(2A)(25-5): Won North Lawndale(Chicago) Sectional. Jumps ten spots as they eliminated the 3 time 2A King Orr Academy(Chicago), then a double digit win over Michele Clark(Chicago). Went through a couple of Chicago Public League powers. Has a tall task trying to beat #4 Leo Catholic(Chicago) for a second time. Fellow Chicago Catholic League power. Monday vs #4 Leo Catholic(Chicago) at Central(Joliet) Supersectional.

8) Bolngbrook(4A)(24-6): Won Sectional final in double overtime and avenged an earlier loss to East(Oswego). Have won 14 straight and has to go to Illinois State University(Normal) on Monday to play downstate Quincy in Supersectional.

9) Wheaton Warrenville South(4A)(32-3): Season complete. Was wiped out by #1 Glenbard West(Glen Ellyn)(just like most teams this season). They had a historic season in making first Sectional final in 41 years.

10) New Trier(Winnekta)(4A)(30-4): Season complete. Lost a tight one to Glenbrook South on the road in Sectional Title game.

11) East(Oswego)(4A)(33-2): Season complete. So close to winning their first Sectional title in school history. Lost in double overtime to Bolingbrook. Best season in school history.

12) Lemont(3A)(27-7): Jumps back into my poll with a huge move up. Upset Hillcrest whom they have lost to for conference title, then upended Thornton in Sectional Title game. First Sectional title since 1975 and only second in school history. Sophomore Nojus Industraitis has stepped up his game. Has a giant of a test again on Monday for this young team. #5 Simeon Career Academy at University of Illinois Chicago Supersectional.

13) Hillcrest(Country Club Hills)(3A)(26-5): Season complete with loss to Lemont in Sectional Semifinal.

14) Mount Carmel(Chicago)(3A)(28-5): Season complete with loss to Hyde Park Academy(Chicago) in Sectional Semifinal.

15) Thornton Township(Harvey)(3A)(23-6): Season complete with loss to #12 Lemont in Sectional Final.

16) Lyons Township(LaGrange)(4A)(26-6): Season complete with loss to #3 Whitney Young(Chicago) in Sectional Final.

17) Curie(Chicago)(4A)(26-7): Season complete with loss to #16 Lyons Township in Sectional Semifinal.

18) Michele Clark(Chicago)(2A)(23-5): Season complete with loss to #7 DePaul College Prep(Chicago) in Sectional Final.

19) Barrington(4A)(27-4): Won their own Sectional with overtime win over Libertyville. Monday vs #2 Glenbrook South(Glenview) at Forest View Educational Center Supersectional.

20) Larkin(Elgin)(4A)(31-3): Easily won Huntley Sectional. Has a chance for revenge vs #1 Glenbard West(Glen Ellyn) at Northern Illinois University(DeKalb) Supersectional.

21) Rolling Meadows(4A)(28-6): Season complete Was blown out in Sectional Semifinal loss to #10 New Trier.

22) Bloom Township(Chicago Heights)(4A)(22-7): Season complete. Lost to #6 Kenwood Academy in Sectional Semifinal.

23) Burlington Central(Hampshire)(31-4): Season complete. Lost to St Francis(Wheaton) in Sectional Final.

24) Christan(Yorkville)(1A)(22-13): Back in poll. Won Sectional title with win over Putnam County(Granville). Monday vs Lexington at Illinois State University(Normal) Supersectional.

25) St Ignatius College Prep(Chicago)(3A)(22-12): Back in poll. Won Sectional title with win over DeLaSalle. Monday vs St Patrick(Chicago) at Hoffman Estates Supersectional.
