Another hectic week in the Chicago Area. #1 team was pushed again by another Top 5 team. A number of ranked teams lost this week so more movement in the poll. Things have not settled in yet as chaos has reigned more than normalcy(sounds like the pandemic huh?). Here we go:
1) Glenbard West(Glen Ellyn)(9-0)(4A)- Beat then #4 Hillcrest(Country Club Hills) by 3 at Team Rose Shootout. Played in that game without glue guy senior guard Paxton Warden. Braden Huff was dominant this week in wins over Hillcrest and at Christian(Yorkville). Senior Army commit Bobby Durkin has played at a high level, but senior Princeton commit Caden Pierce has to pick up his game. Friday at York(Elmhurst).
2) Simeon(Chicago)(3-0)(3A)- Moved up two spots with a victory over Phillips(Chicago) and Milwaukee Science Academy in Tennessee. Junior Homewood Flossmoor transfer Rubin twins Miles and Wes(both 6'9") have played well on the interior. Tuesday at Morgan Park(Chicago) in the Battle of Vincennes, Thursday Hosts Bogan(Chicago).
3) Whitney Young(Chicago)(2-1)(4A)- Won two Red West/North Games this week as Senior Andre Casey Jr had a double/double in one of the games. They will travel to the national known tournament called the City Of The Palms in Florida later in the week. Wednesday Hosts Michelle Clark(Chicago), Friday City of The Palms in Florida first round vs St Bernard(NJ).
4) Kenwood Academy(Chicago)(5-1)(4A)- Dropped two spots with loss to nationally ranked Richardson(TX) but won the other game they played in Tennessee. Junior forward Davius Loury has really stepped up his game as has fellow junior guard Darrin "Dai Dai" Ames. Senior Trey Pettigrew has had a couple of double/doubles in points and assists. Tuesday at Brooks(Chicago), Thursday Hosts Phillips(Chicago).
5) Hillcrest(Country Club Hills)(7-1)(3A)- Lost a tough one by 3 to #1 Glenbard West(Glen Ellyn) at the Team Rose Shootout. Junior Darrion Baker played well in that game as did sophomore Isaiah Green who introduced himself to most of the state this past weekend. They have a steady point guard in junior Bryce Tillery. Will be contenders all season in Class 3A. Tuesday at Eisenhower(Blue Island), Saturday at Bloomington.
6) Glenbrook South(Glenview)(7-1)(4A)- Went 3-1 in a tough 4 game stretch ending it by blowing out previous #6 New Trier(Winnetka) on their home court. Great balance around seniors Nick Martinelli, and Cooper Noard. Junior guards RJ Davis and Gavin Marr have given great scoring support. Friday at Niles West(Skokie).
7) DePaul College Prep(Chicago)(8-0)(2A)- Cruised to three easy victories this week. Senior forward Dylan Arnett has been a good rim protector as well as an offensive threat for the Rams. Friday at Providence St Mel(Chicago), Saturday Hosts Benet Academy(Lisle).
8) Curie(Chicago)(9-0)(4A)- Big win over previous #8 Leo(Chicago) at the Team Rose Shootout. Junior big men Jeremy Harrington Jr and Chikasi Ofoma have been good rebounders and rim protectors. They will be key if the Condors want to make a run to Champaign. Tuesday at Phillips(Chicago), Thursday Hosts Morgan Park(Chicago).
9) Bolingbrook(8-0)(4A)- Big win this week over Marian Catholic(Chicago Heights) as senior forward Michael Osei-Bonsu was huge in that as he has been this season so far. Quietly moving up the rankings. Tuesday at Bourbonnais(Bradley).
10) New Trier(Winnetka)(8-1)(4A)- Lost at home to previous #7 Glenbrook South(Glenview) in a blowout. Back to the drawing board for the Trevians and it doesn't get any easier. They host their big rival on Thursday and then head to a tournament in Arizona. Thursday Hosts rival Evanston Township, Friday at Scottsdale(AZ) vs Saguaro(AZ).
11) Leo Catholic(Chicago)(3-1)(2A)- Lost to previous #10 Curie(Chicago) at Team Rose Shootout. Lack of size hurt them in the game. Senior guard Cameron Cleveland will rally the team to move past the setback. Tuesday Hosts University High(Chicago).
12) Wheaton Warrenville South(8-0)(4A)- Rolling through DuKane conference season so far. Friday Hosts Rival North(Wheaton).
13) Orr Academy(Chicago)(5-1)(2A)- Had a forfeit loss to Michelle Clark(Chicago). Won a game in Memphis,TN then drove overnight back to Chicago to beat Tinley Park at the Team Rose Shootout. Senior guards Leontae Lilly and Cameron Lawin are playing at a high level. Wednesday Hosts Lincoln Park(Chicago), Friday at Homewood Flossmoor, Saturday at Central Catholic(Bloomington).
14) Riverside Brookfield(8-1)(4A)- Breezing through the conference schedule. Had a huge win over Romeoville at the Team Rose Shootout. Senior Joe Gillhooley had a big scoring game against Romeoville. Friday Hosts St Francis.
15) Oak Park River Forest(3-2)(4A)- Was Idle Covid protocols. Wednesday Hosts Hinsdale Central(Darien), Friday at Proviso West(Hillside), Saturday Hosts Lake Forest.
16) Rolling Meadows(7-1)(4A)- Breezing through conference schedule led by senior guard Orlando Thomas and junior guard Cameron Christie. Junior laden team coming along nicely. Friday at Elk Grove, Saturday at Libertyville.
17) Brother Rice(Chicago)(8-1)(4A)- Junior Ahmad Henderson II continues to amaze with how he controls ballgames. His running mate junior guard Nick Niego is continuing to be knockdown three point shooter. Friday Hosts Richards(Oak Lawn).
18) Mount Carmel(Chicago)(10-0)(4A)- Football school? Not to these guys. Junior guard DeAndre Craig has been outstanding. He has some good shooters around him in junior Anthony Ciaravino and senior Eddy Lyons. Sophomore Angelo Ciaravino is an outstanding inside/out force, with senior Elijah Jointer handing the dirty work inside. Friday at Providence Catholic(New Lennox), Saturday Hosts Al Raby(Chicago).
19) Proviso East(Maywood)(5-0)(4A)- Who would have thought they would be under the radar? Junior Jaloni Johnson has been outstanding. Can they give #1 Glenbard West a run in the West Suburban? Friday at Addison Trail.
20) St Rita(Chicago)(6-3)(4A)- Young team that is up and down which can be expected. Took an unexpected loss to Carmel(Mundelein). Have to start playing through their sophomore big men Morez Johnson Jr and James Brown. Tuesday Hosts Marist(Chicago), Wednesday at St Frances De Sales(Chicago), Friday at St Ignatius(Chicago).
21) Thornton(Harvey)(4-2)(3A)- Lost by 1 to Bloom Township(Chicago Heights) on a missed dunk in last 5 seconds. Senior Ty Rodgers is one of the best players in the state. Friday Hosts Rich Township(Olympia Fields).
22) Christian(Yorkville)(6-4)(1A)- Has played a tough schedule. Lost to #1 Glenbard West at Home. Senior Jaden Schutt had 35 points vs Hyde Park(Chicago) at the Team Rose Shootout. Tuesday at #23 East(Oswego), Friday at DeForest(WI) Tournament, Saturday TBD DeForest(WI) Tournament.
23) East(Oswego)(9-0)(4A)- New to the poll. Senior wing Patrick Robinson has been very good for them. A team to watch out for. Tuesday Hosts #22 Christian(Yorkville), Friday Hosts North(Plainfield).
24) Oak Forest(9-0)(3A)- New to the poll. Senior forward Robbie Avila is a consistent double/double machine. Senior guard Fred Robinson has been that second consistent scoring threat. Tuesday at Richards(Oak Lawn), Saturday vs Sandburg at Crete Monee Shootout.
25) Michelle Clark(Chicago)(7-1)(2A)- Back in the poll. Jones twins bully opponents to submission. Wednesday at #3 Whitney Young(Chicago).
