DJ Steward might not go to Duke??????:
DJ Steward is a 6'2" combo guard out of Whitney Young, Chicago. I've heard from sources he might not matriculate at Duke. Why? Steward wants to play on the ball and run some point guard at college as well as play on the wing. The worry seems to be Duke will stick him on the wing and keep him there. It is a legit worry since five star Jeremy Roach has committed, and Jalen Johnson a 6'9" wing loves to handle the ball too. This would be interesting as Coach K has never missed on a Chicago kid he has offered. He may want to go to Texas, where Shaka Smart has been on him for a long time. Could be a wait for Texas which I'll go into in a bit. Stay tuned for this one.
Cade Cunningham is a 6'7" point guard out of Montverde Academy, by way of Arlington, Texas has said his recruitment is wide open. This is despite his brother Cannen getting an Assistant Coaching job at Oklahoma State. He will visit the final five schools on his list, but he could go elsewhere. I'll go into why in a bit.
Greg Brown is a 6'9" forward from Vandegrift HS in Austin, Texas. He cut his schools to five recently and a surprise school is on his list. That would be Kentucky who was not in his Final Ten cut earlier in the year. He also has North Carolina on his Final Five which is intriguing because:
North Carolina is also on Cade Cunningham's Final Five list. Cunningham played with Brown this year on the Nike EYBL Circuit with the Texas Titans. Could they go there as a package deal? Or could they go to Kentucky as a package deal? Both schools are on their Final Five lists, which brings me to:
There are rumblings that Shaka Smart may not survive this coming season at Texas. I'm surprised but not shocked at this because he seems to have done a very good job at the school. Powerful Texas Alumni can be impatient and also not have patience with coaches of a certain demographic. This would affect recruitments of Greg Brown(which is favored to go to Texas), and DJ Steward. It is a situation to watch throughout the college basketball season.
Addison Patterson to Oregon?
My sources have told me Class of 2020 Addison Patterson a 6'6" guard from Bella Vista, Scottsdale, Arizona by way of Canada will be reclassifying to Class of 2019 and will sign with Oregon very soon. This would be the 2nd reclass in the last few weeks for Oregon(N'Faly Dante). The Nike influence has really helped the Ducks in the last few years signing five star and four star players. Patterson is a slasher extraordinaire to the basket and can shoot the three pointer. He would be a great addiction to the Ducks.
Finally Jalen Green recruitment:
Jalen Green is a 6'5" combo guard from Prolific Prep, Napa, California. A few things here: I've heard from sources he's looking at the overseas option. He has a money amount in mind to make the move overseas. I've been told if he does not get that amount he'll go to college and he would prefer Memphis. He'll make his five official visits but consider Memphis the huge favorite if he goes to college. I feel he'll make a lot of money overseas especially in China. People need to keep in mind he's part Filipino which will take his shoe sales through the roof in the Orient. He could go to Australia too but I don't think he'd makes as much playing there. He's also a high flying athlete and already a brand within himself. He announces his decision on December 25th which is Christmas Day.
Addendum: Nike has never signed an athlete who has decided to go overseas out of high school. They want Jalen Green badly, because of this I think they will try to steer him to a Nike school(Memphis?), and then sign him to a large shoe deal after his year at the school. Elite high school players are looking at the overseas option more and more, especially after seeing RJ Hampton's shoe deal playing in New Zealand. I for one don't have a problem with it, get your money. The NCAA is not giving players much of anything money wise. Players can also capitalize on their likeness aka imagery, autograph signings and the like. Happy Hunting everyone.
