WAUKEGAN ILLINOIS: I was at the Waukegan Fieldhouse on Sunday. It was like a fun house with the high scores, one game both teams broke the clock (over 100) with a running clock. Not much defense being played (high school coaches). Here we go:
Glenbrook South (Glenview) 110 Waukegan 105: This is Waukegan's kind of game but looked like the Titans had fun too. Glenbrook South usually does not win this kind of game at anytime but their three point bombing and 6'6"senior Nick Taylor scoring inside and rebounding held them off. 6'0 senior Joseph "Jezzy" White was scoring from all over the court but was not enough.
Notre Dame College Prep (Niles) is better than previously thought. Yes Fall League results mean nothing but beating Thornton (without Chase Abraham) has to give them some confidence. Played well around 6'7" superstar Brady Sehlhorst with pretty good guard play and big time team rebounding.
Thornton Township will be ok. They are trying to put together some team chemistry. This is the time to do it plus no Chase Abraham in this game. They had a hard time getting the ball to 6'9" senior Illinois commit Morez Johnson Jr in his sweet spots. Notre Dame did do a good job double teaming him in the paint. He was patient for the most part passing out of double teams. 6'3" senior Meyoh Sawnsey had a good game on both ends scoring from all three levels, and playing good defense. Still look for them to go deep in Class 3A playoffs.
Jaxson Davis looks like he's played high school basketball for years. Incoming freshman the 6'1" point guard has not played a real high school game yet, but looks so comfortable out there. He ran the offense, made some amazing passes, and played tough defense. 6'6" senior forward Alex Daniels looks to have a big senior season. 6'0" sophomore Braylon Walker teams up with Davis in the backcourt.
Look out for Stevenson (Lincolnshire). Same song different verse even with a new coach. Beat New Trier (Winnetka) by 1 without 6'3" junior point guard Aidan Bardic and 6'7" junior wing Atticus Richmond. 6'0 sophomore point guard Rocco Pagliocca and 6'6" senior wing Jack Dabbs picked up the slack.
Niles North (Skokie) looks poised to take a jump this season. Juniors with plenty of varsity experience. Junior laden team has a big time starting backcourt in 6'0" juniors Yaris Irby and Reid Olson. 6'1" Dylan Lam another junior is a knockdown three point shooter from the corners. 6'6" Hunter Gawron will be on the glass again this year, but has expanded his game. Big key is another junior guard 6'3" Kaiden Chatman Jr who was injured most of last season. He's an X-factor for this team.
Carmel Catholic (Mundelein): Anorher team to look out for in Lake County as they have a big three of 6'2" senior point guard Kaleb Jackson, 6'6" senior wing transfer Fabian Rudd from Virginia, and 6'4" junior combo guard Ethan Henderson.
Can't wait to see what Week 2 has in store in a couple of weeks.
Lake County is going to be poppin again starting this coming season. Lots of potentially good teams this coming season.
