For the first time we have a repeat #1, but a couple of teams took bad losses this week. North (Downers Grove) enters rankings, Perspectives Leadership (Chicago) drops out. Light schedule this week as a lot of schools have final exams, and Holiday Tournaments start next week. Here we go:
1)Kenwood Academy (Chicago) (7-0) (4A): Stays at one.Big win vs #14 Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) at home, beat South (Downers Grove) at Team Rose Shootout. Senior transfer Terrence "TJ" Seals is a big difference maker. Fills the stat sheet. Tuesday at Hyde Park Academy (Chicago), Thursday at Lane Tech College Prep (Chicago), Saturday vs West Side (Gary,IN) in Hammond (IN).
2) DePaul College Prep (Chicago) (8-1) (3A): Jumps one spot. Went 3-0 for the week. Beat up on #12 Rich Township (Richton Park) at Team Rose Shootout. Junior transfer Rykan Woo has had a fantastic start to the season. Thursday at Providence St Mel (Chicago), Saturday vs East (Oswego) at Whitney Young (Chicago).
3) Benet Academy (Lisle) (8-1) (4A): Jumps one spot. Won over #18 Marist (Chicago) in overtime. Beat Hyde Park Academy (Chicago) at Team Rose Shootout. Senior Truman State commit Blake Fagbemi has been aggressive with his offense. Thursday hosts Wheaton Academy (West Chicago), Saturday host Antioch.
4) Bolingbrook (7-1) (4A): Jumps one spot. Beat East (Oswego) and North (Plainfield). Have survived well without juniors point guard Trey Brost and forward Jayden Madden. Tuesday at Minooka, Friday at East (Plainfield), Saturday vs #10 Brother Rice (Chicago) at Sandburg (Orland Park).
5) Homewood Flossmoor (8-1) (4A): Drops 3 spots after overtime loss to #9 St Laurence (Burbank). Senior Wofford commit Jayden Tyler has had a great start to his season. Today host Andrew (Tinley Park), Friday at Lockport.
6) Kankakee (4-1) (3A): Jumps one spot. Won two games in Missouri one by forfeit. Junior Lincoln Williams is starting to pick it up. Tuesday at Eisenhower (Decatur), Friday at Bloom Township (Chicago Heights), Saturday vs Webster Groves (MO) at Riddenour (St Louis).
7) Mount Carmel (Chicago) (7-0) (3A): Jumps 3 spots. Went 3-0 for the week including win over Whitney Young (Chicago) at Team Rose Shootout. Will get a huge (literally and figuratively) addtion of junior Wendell Phillips Academy (Chicago) transfer Claude Mpouma (6'8" 300 pounds) in a few weeks. Tuesday at Fenwick (Oak Park), Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep (Elmhurst).
8) Lincoln Park (Chicago) 8-1) (4A): Stays at eight.Beat #24 Curie (Chicago) lost to North Little Rock (AR) in Carbondale. Tuesday at Linblom Math and Science Academy (Chicago), Thursday at #14 Simeon Career Academy (Chicago), Saturdat vs Griffith (IN) at Hammond (IN).
9) St Laurence (Burbank) (6-2) (3A): Jumps 3 spots. Beat Central Catholic (Aurora) and previous #2 Homewood Flossmoor in overtime at Team Rose Shootout. Senior Purdue Ft Wayne commit EJ Mosley hit the game winner. Monday host Hancock (Chicago), Tuesday at Hinsdale South (Darien), Friday host Fenwick (Oak Park).
10) Brother Rice (Chicago) (8-0) (4A): Jumps 5 spots. Went 3-0 for the week including an entertaining win vs Oak Lawn at Team Rose Shootout. Senior Citadel commit Marcos Gonzales is going for that Player of the Year trophy. Friday at Montini Catholic (Lombard), Saturday vs #4 Bolingbrook at Sandburg (Orland Park).
11) Warren Township (Gurnee) (5-2) (4A): Stays at eleven. Beat Lake Forest. Is still without senior Javerion Banks (undisclosed and not disciplinary). Saturday at Morton (Hammond, IN).
12) Rich Township (Richton Park) (2-3) (4A): Dropped 6 spots. Beat #25 Waukegan. Lost big to #2 DePaul College Prep (Chicago). have had a tough schedule to start the year and are trying to find the right lineup combinations. Thursday at Thornwood (South Holland).
13) Rolling Meadows (8-1) (4A): Jumped one spot. Senior Marquette commit Ian Militec is putting up some monstr numbers. Went 2-0 last week. Friday host Prospect (Mount Prospect).
14) Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) (4-2) (4A): Dropped five spots. Lost week for the Wolverines. Dropped games to #1 Kenwood Academy (Chicago) in a close one, and Niles North (Skokie) by double digits. Can get their mojo back this week with home games vs Whitney Young (Chicago) and #8 Lincoln Park (Chicago).
15) Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) (8-0) (4A): Jumped three spots. Beat DeKalb as senior Illinois State commit Tyreek Coleman took over the game in the second half. Schedule shows idle this week.
16) Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn) (8-0) (4A): Jumped four spots. Went 2-0 last week. Getting big time contributions from multiple sources. Friday at Lyons Township (LaGrange), Saturday at North (St Charles).
17) Evanston Township (8-1) (4A): Dropped four spots. Lost at Deerfield scoring only 13 second half points. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Recovered nicely with a blowout win over Riverside Brookfield at Team Rose Shootout. Saturday host Maine East (Park Ridge).
18) Marist (Chicago) (8-1) (4A): Dropped one spot. Lost a tough overtime game at #3 Benet Academy (Lisle). Beat Lincoln Way East (Frankfort) at Team Rose Shootout. Friday host Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights), Saturday host Gwendolyn Brooks (Chicago).
19) Hinsdale Central (6-2) (4A): Jumped 3 spots. Beat #20 St Patrick (Chicago). Friday at #21 North (Downers Grove), Saturday vs Lemont at Sandburg (Orland Park).
20) St Patrick (Chicago) (7-1) (4A): Dropped five spots. Lost to #20 Hinsdale Central. Friday at Catholic Academy (Joliet), Saturday vs Neuqua Valley (Naperville) at Sandburg (Orland Park).
21) North (Downers Grove) (8-0) (4A): New to the poll. Head Coach Jim Thomas has built a program that should contend for years to come. Senior starters Nolan Hurter, Bobby Grnato, Jack Richtman, Jack Crowley, and Aidan Akkawi are a solid nucleus. Had a good encounter with these guys at the football game vs Lyons Township in the fall. Tuesday at Thornton Fractional South (Lansing), Friday host #19 Hinsdale Central.
22) West (Joliet) (6-2) (4A): Dropped three spots. Lost to Romeoville. Friday host North (Plainfield).
23) St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago) (8-1) (4A): Dropped two spots with loss to Jesuit cup rival Loyola Academy (Wilmette). Recovered to beat Crete Monee at Team Rose Shootout. Friday at Central Catholic (Aurora).
24) Curie (Chicago) (5-1) (4A): Dropped one spot. Lost a tight one at #8 Lincoln Park (Chicago). Beat Westinghouse (Chicago) and Thornton Fractional North (Calumet City) at Team Rose Shootout. Tuesday at Taft (Chicago), Thursday hosts Wendell Phillips Academy (Chicago), Saturday vs #25 Waukegan at Whitney Young (Chicago).
