Holiday Tournaments are over and have shaken up the rankings!!!!! Some teams jumped that lost, some dropped with bad losses. St Patrick (Chicago), West (Joliet) and Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn) drop out. Kaneland, New Trier (Winnetka) and Fremd (Palatine) move in. Here we go:
1) DePaul College Prep (Chicago) (14-1) (3A): Move up one spot. Won Pontiac Holiday Tournament in first try at the tournament beating #5 Benet Academy (Lisle) in title game. Junior Rashuan Porter played huge on the interior the entire tournament. Saturday host Steve Pappas Shootout on Saturday and plays #8 Warren Township (Gurnee)
2) Kenwood Academy (Chicago) (13-1) (4A): Drop one spot. Third place at Big Dipper Tournament Of The Stars.. Lost to eventual champ #6 Rich Township (Richton Park). Senior Terrence Seals is the X factor. Only loss he was in foul trouble. Saturday plays Romeoville at Whitney Young (Chicago).
3) Bolingbrook (14-2) (4A): Move up five spots. Won Jack Tosh Holiday Classic at York (Elmhurst) beating #23 Fenwick (Oak Park) in title game. Five games in six days. Sophomore Davion Thompson was named tournament MVP. Saturday vs DeLaSalle Institute (Chicago) at Steve Pappas Shootout at DePaul College Prep (Chicago).
4) Kankakee (10-1) (3A): Moved up one spot. Won it's own Holiday Tournament as junior Lincoln Williams was MVP. Saturday vs #24 Curie (Chicago) at Steve Pappas Shootout at DePaul College Prep (Chicago).
5) Benet Academy (Lisle) (13-2) (4A): Dropped three spots. Runners up at Pontiac Holiday Tournament losing to #1 DePaul College Prep (Chicago). Senior Truman State commit Blake Fagbemi won the prestigious AC Williamson award. Saturday vs Stevenson (Lincolnshire) at Steve Pappas Shootout at DePaul College Prep (Chicago).
6) Rich Township (Richton Park) (7-4) (4A): Moved up ten spots. Won their own tournament the Big Dipper Tournament of the Stars beating #7 Homewood Flossmoor in title game. Have lost only one game to an Illinois team. Senior Al Brooks Jr was tournament MVP. Sunday vs #22 Niles North (Skokie) at Whitney Young (Chicago).
7) Homewood Flossmoor (13-2) (4A):Dropped three spots. Runners up at Big Dipper Tournament of The Stars to #6 Rich Township (Richton Park). Idle this week.
8) Warren Township (Gurnee) (10-2) (4A): Moved up two spots. Won Proviso West Holiday Tournament for second year in a row beating #14 Lincoln Park (Chicago). Sophomore Jaxson Davis was tournament MVP for second year in a row. Saturday at #1 DePaul College Prep (Chicago) at Steve Pappas Shootout.
9) Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) (12-0) (4A): Moved up three spots. Won Hinkle Holiday Classic at Jacobs (Algonquin) with ease. Senior Illinois State commit Tyreek Coleman was MVP. Friday at Harlem (Machesney Park), Saturday at East (Plainfield).
10) Mount Carmel (Chicago) (11-2) (3A): Dropped one spot. Finished third at Pekin Holiday Tournament losing to Morton (IL) who won the title. Friday host Bogan 9Chicago).
11) Hinsdale Central (12-2) (4A): Moved up eight spots. Won their own Hinsdale Central Holiday Tournament with title win over #12 Brother Rice (Chicago). Senior South Dakota commit Vincas Buzelis was tournament MVP. Saturday vs Hersey (Arlington Heights) at Buffalo Grove.
12) Brother Rice (Chicago) (13-1) (4A): Dropped five spots. Suffer first loss in Hinsdale Central Holiday Tournament title game vs #11 Hinsdale Central. Saturday host Perspectives Leadership (Chicago).
13) Rolling Meadows (12-2) (4A): Dropped two spots. Lost to Metamora in quarterfinals of Jack Tosh Holiday Classic at York. Saturday vs North (Downers Grove) at Buffalo Grove.
14) Lincoln Park (Chicago) (13-3) (4A): Dropped one spot. Runners-up in Proviso West Holiday Tournament for second year in a row to #8 Warren Township (Gurnee). Idle this week.
15) St Laurence (Burbank) (13-3) (3A): Dropped nine spots. Won Consolation title (5th place) at Jack Tosh Holiday Classic winning over South (Downers Grove). Lost in first round to Lyons Township (LaGrange). Idle this week.
16) Marist (Chicago) (13-2) (4A):Dropped two spots. Finished third at Centralia Holiday Tournament losing to the host in the semifinals. Beat Dyett (Chicago) for third place. Saturday at St Rita (Chicago).
17) Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) (8-4) (4A): Dropped two spots. Lost in Pontiac Holiday Tournament Semifinal vs #5 Benet Academy (Lisle). Beat #24 Curie (Chicago) for third place. Seniors Lorenzo Shields and Julien Doyle are playing at a high level. Idle this week.
18) Evanston Township (12-2) (4A): Dropped one spot. Finished runners-up in Centralia Holiday Tournament to the host at the buzzer. Idle this week.
19) Kaneland (12-1) (3A): New to the poll. Won Plano Holiday Classic for second year in a row. Top players are junior Marshawn Cocroft who was tournament MVP, senior Freddy Hassan and sophomore Jeffrey Hassan. They will be getting a piece that transferred in very soon. Saturday vs North (Belvidere) at FiServ (WI).
20) Fremd (Palatine) (13-1) (4A): New to the poll. Won Wheeling Hardwood Classic at Wheeling beating Deerfield in title game. Junior Jordan Williams was MVP. Senior Samuel Hirsch is a knockdown three point shooter. Junior point guard Chase Nelson and senior Ryan Brown are other top players. Saturday vs Oak Park River Forest at Buffalo Grove.
21) Niles North (Skokie) (11-3) (4A): Moved up three spots. Came in third at Hinsdale Central Holiday Tournament. Lost an overtime game in semifinals to #11 Hinsdale Central. Beat Lane Tech College Prep (Chicago) in third place game. Friday host Maine East (Park Ridge)
22) Fenwick (Oak Park) (13-3) (4A): Moved up three spots. Runners up in Jack Tosh Holiday Classic to #3 Bolingbrook. Seniors Michigan football commit Nate Marshall and Ty Macariola made all tournament. Idle this week.
23) St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago) (12-2) (4A): Dropped one spot. Lost to Lake Zurich in Jack Tosh Holiday Classic Quarterfinal. Friday host Bulls College Prep (Chicago).
24) Curie (Chicago) (10-3) (4A): Dropped one spot. Came in fourth at Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Lost to #1 DePaul College Prep (Chicago) and then #17 Simeon Career Academy (Chicago). Saturday vs #4 Kankakee at Steve Pappas Shootout at DePaul College Prep (Chicago).
25) New Trier (Winnetka) (13-4) (4A): Back in the poll after a three week absence. Came in fifth at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Senior Wash U St Louis commit Colby Smith and junior Chris Kirkpatrick made all tournament. Idle this week.
