I haven't done a ranking for this area since beginning of the season. This extends from Evanston up to the border of Wisconsin and Lake County. Does not include the Maine West and Maine South as they are more West Suburb. Notre Dame College Prep (Niles) is the edge. Here we go:
1) Evanston Township (20-4) (4A): In line for #1 seed in New Trier (Winnetka) Sectional. Tied with New Trier (Winnetka) whom they just beat last week. Senior's Theo Rocca, George Richardson (transfer from DePaul College Prep (Chicago)), Kaidan Chatham (transfer from Niles North (Skokie)) and Ian Peters have led the way. Youngsters like sophomore Vito Rocca and freshman Ben Ojala have contributed. Dribble drive offense is clicking.
2) Loyola Academy (Wilmette) (20-6) (4A): Have survived a tough schedule playing in the Chicago Catholic League Blue Division with a bunch of ranked teams. Senior Brendan Loftus, a Miami (OH) Football recruit has picked up his scoring lately. Junior guards Trey Williams and Sam Golden have been consistent all year.
3) Waukegan (17-6) (4A): Lead the North Suburban Conference and have overcome injury early in year to junior Simereon Carter to right the ship. Senior Xavi Granville has been a consistent scorer all season. Juniors Carter Newsome and Jaali "Rico" Love are contributing defensively and Love is hitting the glass, and scoring all over the court. Has beaten rival Warren Township (Gurnee) twice.
4) Warren Township (Gurnee) (17-8) (4A): Sophomore Jaxson Davis has had to carry a big scoring load while senior Javerion Banks was out a month and had surgery. He's back now and they are trying to get him back in the flow. Junior Braylon Walker is the key. When he's aggressive looking for his shot this team is dangeous. Senior Jack Wolf has provided some scoring. Senior Zach Ashburn (star baseball pitcher) has come on getting double/double's lately. Lost to rival Waukegan twice. Big one Friday hosting Stevenson (Lincolnshire).
5) Stevenson (Lincolnshire) (16-8) (4A): Beat Waukegan last week. Second in the North Suburban Conference. Senior's Atticus Richmond and Winona State commit Aidan Bardic have been consistently being productive. Juniors Rocco Pagliocca and Donaovan Williams are not far behind. Williams has picked up his scoring lately. Big one at Warren Township (Gurnee) on Friday.
6) Niles North (Skokie) (20-6) (4A): Senior laden team that has picked up the defens this year. Hunter Gawron has been a consistent double/double machine all year. Guards Reid Olson, a Purdue Northwest commit, Yaris Irby, Dylan Lam are deadly from three point range. Won Central Suburban North for fourth time in last five years.
7) New Trier (Winnetka) (19-7) (4A): Tied for Central Suburban South lead with Evanston Township. They've played a tough schedule and played some good teams close, but no wins. They did beat Loyola Academy (Wilmette) first week of the season. Team has been to Champaign two years in a row. Still in the mix with senior Colby Smith (Wash U St Louis commit), and junior Chiris Kirkpatrick playing at a high level. They need a third consistent scorer and somehow get junior Danny Houlihan (layup) more involved in the offense. Lefty is money off catch and shoot threes.
8) Lake Forest (15-7) (3A): Third in North Suburban Conference are always a threat to knock off a top team. Seniors Hudson Scroggins and Grant Mordini are twin towers in the paint, and both can step out and hit threes. Junior Dominic Mordini is a knock down three point shooter that can attack off the bounce.
9) Deerfield (16-7) (3A): Third in Central Suburban South. Have a home win over Evanston Township. Junior Jake Pollack is an inside/out force. Junior Evan Nagler is a knockdown three point shooter as is senior Sam Hanus. Senior Quinn Schimanski is running the team and is a football player. Senior big man Drew Rodgers is still recrovering from ACL injury from last season. If he gets fully healthy and can contribute it takes them to another level.
10) Highland Park (16-8) (4A): Second in Central Suburban North. Senior Simon Moschlin is the top scorer on the team and has been for at least the last two years. Gets some scoring support by fellow senior Max Diamond. Tough defensive low scoring team.
