Big Tim's Top 25 in Chicago Area After Week 1!!!!!

Most of the teams in preseason rankings won their Thanksgiving tournaments or the games that they played. There is some movement as a few teams did lose. Big week next week with Chicago Elite Classic and some great matchups. Here we go:




1) Kenwood Academy (Chicago) (1-0) (4A): Stayed at #1 as they beat up on Hansberry College Prep (Chicago) at Rich Township Shootout. Coach Mike Irvin sat out the first of a two game suspension for off season rules violation. DePaul commit Chris Riddle (senior) hit 26 in opener. Next: Tuesday at Farragut Career Academy (Chicago), Wednesday hosts Lincoln Park (Chicago), Saturday vs #5 Thornton Township (Harvey) at Chicago Elite Classic


2) North (Downers Grove) (3-0) (4A): Breezed through their own tournament so far without any trouble though shorthanded. Had football players playing in Class 7A title game. Big one on Monday hosts Metea Valley (Aurora) is their only game this week.




3) Homewood Flossmoor (4-0) (4A): Won Bloom/Marian Catholic Thanksgiving Tournament title winning every game by double digits. Columbia commit Gianni Cobb (senior), Carson Brownfield (senior), and Bryce Heard (junior) all made all tournament. Wednesday at Crete Monee, Friday hosts Sandburg (Orland Park), Saturday against Gonzaga (DC) at Chicago Elite Classic.




4) Brother Rice (Chicago) (4-0) (4A): Recliner boys won VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic at Riverside Brookfield beating the hosts in the title game. Zavier Fitch (senior) had an impressive title game, as did Marcos Gonzales (junior) Caden Workman (junior) and Ty Wooten (senior). Lewis commit Cale Cosme (senior) had a consistent steady burn of performers especially in the assists category. Tuesday hosts St Frances De Sales (Chicago), Friday hosts Loyola Academy (Wilmette).




5) Thornton Township (Harvey) (4A): Won Boylan (Rockford) Thanksgiving Invitational Championship. Illinois commit Morez Johnson Jr (senior) averaged 18.5 points and 16 rebounds for the tournament on way to all tournament honors. Meyoh Sawnsey (senior) (13.3 PPG, 2 RPG, 2 SPG), and Chase Abraham (senior) (15.8 PPG, 4 RPG, 4.5 APG) both made all tournament honors as well. Swansea had some nice dunks (WATCH YOUR HEAD). Tough weekend ahead schedule wise. Friday hosts #25 Bloom Township (Chicago Heights), Saturday #1 Kenwood Academy (Chicago) at Chicago Elite Classic.




6) Bolingbrook (3-0) (4A): Won Decatur Turkey Championship. JT Pettigrew (junior) was MVP of tournament, while Davion Thompson (freshman) was all tournament. Thompson seems to be comfortable in his first high school games. Josh Aniceto (senior) is playing well running the team. Thursday at Stagg (Palos Hills), Saturday vs Warren Township (Gurnee) at Chicago Elite Classic.




7) Mount Carmel (Chicago) (4-0) (3A): Won Grant Community Thanksgiving Tournament. Won every game by double digits. Good performances from Northwestern commit Angelo Ciaravino (senior), and Lee Marks (senior). Cameron Thomas (junior) is doing a good job at the guard spot. Tuesday vs Fenwick (Oak Park), Thursday at Bogan (Chicago), Saturday vs Vashon (MO) at Chicago Elite Classic.




8) Benet Academy (Lisle) (4-0) (4A): Won St Charles East Thanksgiving Tournament. Gabe Sularski (sophomore) was MVP. Daniel Pauliukonis was all tournament. Young team won every game by double digits. Tuesday at Nazareth Academy (LaGrange Park),





9) DePaul College Prep (Chicago) (4-0) (3A): Won Battle of the Bridge at DePaul College Prep (Chicago) and Lane Tech College Prep (Chicago). Makai Mvamme (junior) was MVP. Jonas Johnson (junior) made all tournament. Class 2A champ is picking up right where they left off. Thursday at St Rita (Chicago), Friday vs Lane Tech College Prep (Chicago) at Chicago Elite Classic.




10) Glenbrook North (Northbrook) (4-0) (4A): Won their own Thanksgiving Tournament. Josh Fridman (senior) was MVP and showed the ACL injury is a thing of the past. Owen Giannoulias (senior) and Sam Lappin (senior) made all tournament. Friday hosts #17 Glenbrook South (Glenview), Saturday at Mundelein.




11) Whitney Young (Chicago) (2-1) (4A): Lost to a team from Texas. Antonio Munoz (junior) played well and Howard Williams (freshman) introduced himself to high school basketball. Marquis Clark (sophomore) is establishing himself at the guard position. Saturday against Christian Brothers College Prep (MO) at Chicago Elite Classic.


12) New Trier (Winnetka) (4-0) (4A): Won New Trier (Winnetka)/ Loyola Academy (WIlmette) Thanksgiving Tournament. Colby Smith (junior) was MVP. Might have to revisit leaving him off my Top 50 list. Logan Feller (senior) and Chris Kirkpatrick made all tournament. Tuesday hosts #19 Warren Township (Gurnee), Friday at Maine South (Park Ridge).




13) Marist (Chicago) (4-0) (4A): Won District 218 Tip Off Tournament for second year in a row. All wins by double digits. Young team is playing well together. Darshan Thomas (senior) has been a double/double machine. Stephen Brown (sophomore) is showing his talent, and Adonis Vassilakis is scoring at the guard position. Tuesday hosts #21 St Patrick (Chicago), Friday vs St Laurence (Burbank) at Chicago Elite Classic.




14) Lincoln Way East (3-0) (4A): Won Lyons (LaGrange) Thanksgiving Tournament. Great performances by sophomores BJ Powell, and Karson Thomas. Junior Brenden Sanders played well all week. Saturday at East (Oswego)




15) DeLaSalle Institute (Chicago) (4-0) (3A): New to the poll. Won Windy City Turkey Classic by beating host #18 St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago) in title game. Tavariyuan Williams (senior) and Richard Lindsey (senior) were top scorers in title game. Friday at Leo Catholic (Chicago)


16) Metea Valley (Aurora) (3-0) (4A): Their big three of Will Ashford (senior), James Parker (senior), and Jake Nosek (junior) are being productive scorers. Alex Danehl has added scoring punch. Monday at #2 North (Downers Grove), Friday hosts DeKalb, Sunday at #21 St Patrick (Chicago)




17) Glenbrook South (Glenview) (5-0) (4A):New to the poll. Won Ed Molitor Thanksgiving Tournament at Palatine. Nick Taylor (senior) was tournament MVP. Anestis Hadjistamoulou (junior) made all tournament. Won 5 games in 6 days. Friday at #10 Glenbrook North (Northbrook).




18) St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago) (3-1) (4A): Lost to #15 DeLaSalle Institute (Chicago) at Windy City Turkey Classic at St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago). Reggie Ray (senior) and Phoenix Gill (junior) made all tournament. Friday hosts Montini Catholic (Lombard), Saturday vs Riverside Brookfield at Chicago Elite Classic.


19) Warren Township (Gurnee) (3-1) (4A): Finished second at Grant Community Thanksgiving Tournament. Alex Daniels (senior) and Jaxson Davis (freshman) (19 PPG, 5 RPG, 5.7 APG, 3.7 SPG) made all tournament. Tuesday at #12 New Trier (Winnetka), Saturday Bolingbrook at Chicago Elite Classic, hosts Kennedy (Chicago).


20) Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) (4-0) (4A): New to the poll. Tre Brissett (senior) was MVP and a very underrated talent. Tyreek Coleman and Moses Wilson (junior) made al tournament. Elijah Whitaker made all inspirational. Friday at Central (Naperville), Saturday at Oswego.




21) St Patrick (Chicago) (3-1) (3A): Lost to #10 Glenbrook North (Northbrook) at Glenbrokm North/St Patrick Thanksgiving Tournament. Neveah Hawkins (junior), EJ Breland (junior), and AJ Thomas (senior) made all tournament. Tuesday at #13 Marist (Chicago), Sunday at #13 Metea Valley (Aurora).


22) Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) (0-2) (4A): Lost two games in Utah to out of state teams. We will see what the guard play is at this week. Tuesday at Thornwood (South Holland), Friday vs Hillcrest (Country Club Hills) at Chicago Elite Classic. Saturday hosts Guilford (Rockford).


23) Romeoville (3-1) (4A): Lost to Central (Joliet) in overtime. Getting contributions from different people. DJ Porter (junior), EJ Mosley (junior), and Mickeis Johnson (sophomore). Young team still trying to put it together.


24) Curie (Chicago) (2-0) (4A): New to poll. Two impressive wins to start the season. Tavion Collier with a couple of double/double's, Will Gonzalez (senior) has been a top scorer. Illinois Chicago commit Carlos Harris III is running the show. Monday hosts Bogan (Chicago), Wednesday vs HSAS, Saturday Sidwell Friends (DC).


25) Bloom Township (Chicago Heights) (3-1) (4A): Lost to #3 Homewood Flossmoor at Bloom Township/Marian Catholic Thanksgiving Tournament. Elijah Lovemore (junior) has had two triple double's. Santana Flowers (senior) is giving them rebounding and athleticism. Friday at #5 Thornton Township (Harvey).
