I was at the Southern Illinois Shootout Classic series which I'll write up on tomorrow. Thornton and Hyde Park (who's unranked) won big time games in Springfield. Last week before the big time holiday tournaments next week. Light week for most in the Top 25. Here we go:
1) Brother Rice (Chicago) (12-0) (3A): Recliner boys had big performances from Lewis commit senior Cale Cosme, junior Marcos Gonzales this week in going 3-0. Host Aurora (West) Friday.
2) Homewood Flossmoor (9-1) (4A): Won over Lockport this week.
3) Thornton Township (Harvey) (7-1) (3A): beat AP Class 4A #1 Normal Community at Southern Illinois Shootout Classic Series. Morez Johnson Jr had a double/double and Chase Abraham had a strong game. Hosts #20 Kankakee in a big conference showdown.
4) Curie (Chicago) (9-1) (4A): Handled their two opponents pretty easily. #1 seed at Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Wednesday at Crane Medical (Chicago).
5) Benet Academy (Lisle) (10-0) (4A): Blowout win on the road and a tight win at home against #21 Marist (Chicago). Visits North (Naperville) on Saturday.
6) North (Downers Grove) (8-1) (4A): Survived rival South (Downers Grove). Idle this week.
7) DePaul College Prep (Chicago) (11-0) (3A): Held Providence St Mel (Chicago) to 28 points Loyola Academy (WIlmette) to 18 points and #19 Bloom Township (Chicago Heights) to 27 points this week. Pack line defense is working well. Idle this week.
8) Mount Carmel (Chicago) (11-2) (3A): Lost in Missouri in overtime. Blew out IC Catholic Prep (Elmhurst) and beat tough St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago). Sophomore point guard Noah Mister has made a difference. Saturday plays Proviso East (Maywood) at Shootout at Whitney Young (Chicago).
9) Warren Township (Gurnee) (10-1) (4A): Keeps rolling along as they beat West (Joliet). Senior Immanuel Brown has stepped up his game. Tuesday at Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock).
10) Kenwood Academy (Chicago) (6-2) (4A): Beat Wendell Phillips (Chicago) and Dyett (Chicago). Saturday at East Chicago Central (IN).
11) Bolingbrook (8-1) (4A): Beat #24 Lincoln Way East (Frankfort) as freshman Davion Thompson had a big scoring game of 32 points. Junior JT Pettigrew is posting consistent double/double's. Idle this week.
12) Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) (9-0) (4A): Rolling along in the DuPage Valley Conference. Idle this week.
13) Glenbrook North (Northbrook) (9-1) (4A): Lost at Prospect (Mount Prospect). Recovered to blow out Deerfield. Thursday at Maine South (Park Ridge). Friday at Ridgewood (Norridge).
14) Lincoln Park (Chicago) (8-2) (4A): New to the poll. Players that stuck around after previous coaching staff was let go have responded to Coach Josh Anderson and the new regime. Beat #14 Whitney Young (Chicago). Seniors Semaje Howard, Tyshawn Robinson are showing leadership. Juniors Chayse Turner, Damian Pearson Jr, and Keyshawn Barfield have played together for a couple of years. Sophomore Ahmad Lee is big time. Monday at Wendell Phillips (Chicago), Wednesday at Rich Township (Richton Park).
15) New Trier (Winnekta) (11-1) (4A): Won tournament in Scottsdale (AZ). Senior Ian Brown was tournament MVP. Senior Logan Feller and sophomore Christopher Kirkpatrick made all tournament. Back home to visit rival Evanston Township on Thursday.
16) Whitney Young (Chicago) (5-5) (4A): Lost to #14 Lincoln Park (Chicago) on the road. First loss to instate opponent. Young team still trying to figure things out. Saturday against West Side (Gary,IN) at East Chicago Central (IN).
17) Romeoville (10-1) (4A): Getting top performances from different players each game. Idle this week.
18) Riverside Brookfield (9-1) (4A): 7 footer Stefan Cicic is consistently getting double/double's, while senior Steven Brown is doing a good job running point. Tuesday hosts Bremen (Midlothian).
19) Bloom Township (Chicago Heights) (6-3) (4A): Lost to #7 DePaul College Prep (Chicago) scoring only 27 points in the game. Tough schedule keeps them in the rankings. Idle this week.
20) Kankakee (8-0) (3A): Senior point guard Larenz Walters and sophomore Lincoln Williams continue to put together strong performances. Schedule gets tougher visiting #3 Thornton Township (Harvey) on Thursday. First they host Centennial (Champaign) on Tuesday.
21) Marist (Chicago) (9-2) (4A): Lost a tough one to #5 Benet Academy (Lisle) by one point on the road. Sophomore Stephen Brown had an outstanding performance. Thursday hosts Evergreen Park
22) Lake Park (Roselle) (9-1) (4A): Beat pervious #25 and undefeated Glenbard North (Carol Stream) without a top performance from senior Camden Cerese who averages 26. Came back with 35 on Saturday. Fellow seniors Dennasio Lagiola, and Tommy Rochford can fill it up from three. Point guard Matthew Geraci gets the ball to the scorers. Friday hosts Warrenville South (Wheaton).
23) DeLaSalle Institute (Chicago) (7-2) (3A): Took it on the chin at #1 Brother Rice (Chicago). Will head to King of The Bluegrass in Faridale, Ky. Plays Central (Little Rock, AR) on Wednesday.
24) Lindblom Math and Science Academy (Chicago) (7-4): Stayed in the poll due to their tough schedule and wins over two teams that were ranked. Thursday hosts Latin (Chicago)
25) Niles North (Skokie) (9-1) (4A): Starting lineup is all juniors who have played together the last two years. Leaders are Yaris Irby and Reid Olson who can fill it up from three. Dylan Lam shoots corner threes, Kaidan Chatman does a lit big of everything, and Hunter Gawron handles the paint on both ends. High scoring team. Only loss is to #7 DePaul College Prep (Chicago). Thursday at Highland Park.
