I waited till after the MLK day games to release my rankings. Lots of postponements due to weather. Some movement but big time games at When Sides Collide on Saturday. Here we go:
Homewood Flossmoor (16-1) (4A): Beat Romeoville at their MLK Shootout. Plays #7 North (Downers Grove) at When Sides Collide on Saturday at Benet Academy (Lisle).
2) Curie (Chicago) (17-1) (4A): Rolled #20 Kenwood Academy (Chicago) in dominant fashion. Chicago Public League Title favorite? Thursday hosts Englewood STEM (Chicago), Friday vs Millard North (NE), Saturday vs Father Tolton (MO) at Quincy(IL) Shootout.
3) Mount Carmel (Chicago) (19-2) (3A): Beat #21 Glenbrook North (Northbrook) at New Trier MLK Shootout. Friday hosts #13 Loyola Academy (WIlmette). Plays #20 Kenwood Academy (Chicago) at When Sides Collide on Saturday at Benet Academy (Lisle).
4) Thornton Township (Harvey) (15-2) (3A): Beat Niles North (Skokie) as Mr Basketball favorite Illinois commit Morez Johnson Jr went for 30 (career high), 17 and 5 blocks.. Plays #9 Benet Academy (Lisle) at When Sides Collide on Saturday at Benet Academy (Lisle)
5) DePaul College Prep (Chicago) (17-1) (3A): Won both games last week. Friday at #8 Brother Rice (Chicago).
6) Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) (18-0) (4A): Won at North (Naperville) by 1 surviving a buzzer beater attempt. Beat state ranked Normal Community. Junior point guard Tyreek Coleman is the best floor general in the state.
7) North (Downers Grove) (16-3) (4A): Beat state ranked Normal Community as senior Princeton commit Jack Stanton is back in the lineup (ankle). Plays #1 Homewood Flossmoor at When Sides Collide on Saturday at Benet Academy (Lisle).
8) Brother Rice (Chicago) (18-2) (3A): Have started another winning streak. Hosts #12 Marist (Chicago) on Tuesday in neighborhood rivalry, hosts #5 DePaul College Prep (Chicago) on Friday.
9) Benet Academy (Lisle) (15-2) (4A): Young team is coming along nicely. Big time challenge hosting #3 Thornton Township (Harvey) on Saturday at When Sides Collide.
10) Bolingbrook (15-3) (4A): Lost to East (Oswego) at the buzzer. Friday hosts Andrew (Tinley Park).
11) York (Elmhurst) (16-3) (4A): Won over Huntley. Friday at #7 North (Downers Grove), Saturday at East (Oswego).
12) Marist (Chicago) (16-3) (4A): Won their game last week. Scoring balance has been good with this young team. Tuesday at #8 Brother Rice (Chicago) in big time neighborhood rivalry.
13) Loyola Academy (Wilmette) (17-3) (4A): Defense is leading the way for this hard-nosed team. Tuesday hosts Montini Catholic (Lombard), Friday at #3 Mount Carmel (Chicago).
14) Kankakee (14-2) (3A): Lost at #17 Bloom Township (Chicago Heights) but beat Stagg (Palos Heights) at Homewood Flossmoor MLK Classic.
15) Neuqua Valley (Naperville) (15-4) (4A): Won both games last week.
16) Warren Township (Gurnee) (18-3) (4A): Lost at home to Lake Forest, then went to New York and won two games there. Freshman Jaxson Davis hurt his foot/ankle. Time out of the lineup to be determined.
17) Bloom Township (Chicago Heights) (18-5) (4A): Beat #14 Kankakee on their home court. Hosts Thornridge (Dolton) on Friday.
18) New Trier (Winnetka) (17-3) (4A): Beat #20 Kenwood Academy (Chicago) at New Trier MLK Shootout as sophomore point guard Chris Kirkpatrick had 21 points. Visits Deerfield on Friday.
19) Riverside Brookfield (15-3) (4A): Lost to Hillcrest (Country Club Hills). Friday at Elmwood Park, Saturday hosts Fenwick (Oak Park).
20) Kenwood Academy (Chicago) (12-6) (4A): Lost to #2 Curie (Chicago) and #18 New Trier (Winnetka) at New Trier MLK Shootout.
21) Glenbrook North (Northbrook) (15-4) (4A): Lost to #3 Mount Carmel (Chicago) as senior leading scorer Sam Lappin is out another few weeks with injury. Friday hosts Evanston Township.
22) Glenbrook South (Glenview) (15-3) (4A): Idle due to weather. Friday at Maine South (Park Ridge).
23) Rich Township (14-4) (4A): Won 4 games last week. Team is coming together and playing some good basketball. Tuesday hosts #17 Bloom Township (Chicago Heights), Friday at #14 Kankakee.
24) Palatine (15-5): New to the poll. Mid Suburban West Conference team. Underrated Washington University St Louis commit Connor May leads the way. Has some tough losses to some ranked teams. Thursday at Hoffman Estates, Saturday at Mundelein.
25) Lake Zurich (13-4): New to the poll. North Suburban team who has a mix of youth and experience. Seniors Nick Popovic, Keyon Haynes comes off the bench to block shots, juniors Connor Strauss, Anton Streinikov,and sophomore Kam Kretschmar. Friday at Stevenson (Lincolnshire).
