Brother Rice aka Recliner Boys win Battle of Pulaski over Marist for sixth consecutive time!!!!!

This was the first time they played for a trophy (a nice one at that) and honored former Brother Rice athlete Andrew Weishar who passed away of cancer October 12th, 2012. Game itself was anticlimactic. Here we go:

#8 Brother Rice (Chicago) 65 #12 Marist (Chicago) 47: Marist started three sophomores. Brother Rice started three seniors. To me that was the difference in the game. Brother Rice players have been through this heated rivalry before and are used to it. Marist players even senior Darshan Thomas went through it for the first time with exception of sophomores Adoni Vassilakis and Stephen Brown. Brother Rice played their usual game, moving the ball, making sound cuts and getting high percentage shots. Marist did a lot of dribbling and not moving the ball so much or making their cuts. Marist started the game with a 7-0 run and looked like they would run away with it. Brother Rice was calm, did not call a timeout and responded with an 11-0 run to make it 11-7. Marist called a timeout but Brother Rice led the rest of the way. 16-9 to end the first quarter which completed a 16-2 run, led 30-21 at half-time, and 46-35 at end of the third quarter. The closest Marist got in the fourth quarter was 7 but Brother Rice ran away after that for a signature win in the rivalry. Brother Rice had 4 players in double figures. Senior Cale Cosme controlled the tempo of the game and had 15 points (7 free throws) 6 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal. Senior Ty Wooten had 11 points 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Junior Marcos Gonzales had 11 points 3 rebounds 3 assists 1 steal and 1 block. Marist was led by Thomas with 17 points 9 rebounds 1 steal and 1 block. Junior Marquis Vance came off the bench with 12 points 8 rebounds 1 assist 2 steals and 1 block. Brother Rice upped it's record to 19-2, while Marist drops to 17-4.

PLAYER OF THE GAME:

Zavier Fitch, 6'7" senior forward, Brother Rice (Chicago) ruled the glass as usual with 14 rebounds. Added 19 points scoring on put backs, and spin moves in the paint. Chipped in 3 assists and 3 blocks.
