It was senior night out in Hampshire at Burlington Central. Excited big crowd, anticipation of chance of clinching a conference title. This is the second year in a row I came out to their game, and watched them win a share of the conference title: https://www.bigtimshsbballrevue.com/post/superlatives-in-chicago-area-high-school-basketball-tonight-14. Just received the number one seed in their sub-sectional. Great times out in this town. They stepped up and took care of business. It took a quarter, but they played 12 guys in the first quarter alone, wore out Crystal Lake South. Here we go:
Burlington Central (Hampshire) 66 South (Crystal Lake) 40: Belmont commit Drew Scharnowski (6'9" wing) had a quiet night by his standards. He had 14 points 6 rebounds 2 assists 1 steal and 2 blocks. He was not needed tonight as others stepped up in a team effort for a share of the Fox Valley Conference title. They led from second quarter on as it was tied at 17 at end of first quarter. Northern Michigan commit Cooper LePage (6'1" senior guard) hit a baseline jumper with 2 seconds left to tie it. That was as close as Crystal Lake South could get as Burlington Central led at half 33-24 and at end of three 52-33. Senior forward Laurence University commit Nicholas Gouriotis (6'4") had 13 points and sophomore wing Jacob Johnson (6'4") had all 10 of his points in the second half. Senior point guard Matthew Lemon (5'9") had 12 points 3 assists and 3 steals. Four players in double figures for great balance. Senior guard Nolan Milas (5'10") had 5 assists. Crystal Lake South had one player in double figures and that was LePage with 16 points. Senior forward Brady Schroeder (6'4") had 8 points, and star sophomore point guard AJ Demirov (5'11") was held to 8 points. Burlington Central ups it's record to 24-5, 14-2 in conference. Crystal Lake South drops to 21-8, 11-5 in conference.
