Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Deerfield keeps within striking distance of Central Suburban South leader New Trier (Winnekta) with big win on the road. Stay one game back in loss column in conference. Here we go:

Deerfield 63 Maine South (Park Ridge) 42:

PARK RIDGE, ILLINOIS: Maine South players have been asking me to come to a game since the summer. I figured this would be a good one to go to. Maine South was misssing senior starter Jack Sladkey (6'6"center) (sick) for the game.

First quarter:

Very deliberate by both teams as Deerfield, which led the whole way, end it with a 12-7 lead as both teams started cold from the field.

Second quarter:

Deerfield picked it up as junior guard Evan Nagler (6'3") picked up the scoring and ended the half with 11 points. junior forward Jake Pollack (6'8") had 7 as they led 27-13 at the end of the quarter.

Third quarter:

Game was put away here as Maine South continued it's cold shooting. Senior shooting guard Sam Hanus (6'2") scored 6 of his points in the quarter. Deerfield led 43-24 at the end of the quarter. Game over.

Fourth quarter:

Maine South did cut it to 14 (43-29) with a 5-0 run to start the period then Deerfield called timeout and went on it's own 6-0 run to end proceedings. Quarter finished with both teams emptying the bench.

Star Maine South junior guard Panayiotis Sotos had a bad shooting night. Scored 3 points on 1 of 15 from the floor, 1 for 12 from three. Had open shots just couldn’t get anything to fall. Those days happen sometimes in this game. He’ll bounce back.

Top scorers:

Deerfield:

Junior Evan Nagler 14 points (7 of 11 from field) 7 rebounds

Senior Sam Hanus 14 points (4 of 7 from field)

Junior Jake Pollack 11 points (5 of 7 from field) and 2 steals

Maine South:

Junior Rico D'Alessandro game high 24 points (7 for 13 from field, 9 for 14 from free throw)

Deerfield ups it's record to 12-4, 3-1 in conference, Maine South drops to 7-8, 0-4 in conference
