AURORA, IL:

It was said that Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) has played a less than strong schedule in the DuPage Valley Conference. Only loss is to Marist (Chicago) at When Sides Collide. Well they beat highly regarded Warren Township (Gurnee) and wins against #9 Kankakee in this game. Senior point guard Tyreek Coleman (#12) of Waubonsie Valley is a Mr Basketball candidate as well as Big Tim All-Area Player Of The Year candidate. He had a big game once again in this one. Kankakee played without starting center Eli Stitt (two technical fouls last game so had to sit out). Here we go:

#7 Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) 57 #9 Kankakee 53:

First quarter:

It was a very tight quarter as the teams were filling themselves out on this Monday afternoon. Junior Lincoln Williams of Kankakee scored 5 points in the quarter, but hurt his ankle late in the quarter. Was not the same the rest of the game as he limped through it. State's top junior still had some defensive moments in the game. Junior Myair Thompson had 5 in the quarter. Meanwhile senior Josh Tinney was aggressive with his offense in the quarter. He scored 6 (2/5 FG) of his 8 points in the frame. Waubonsie Valley led 13-12 at the end of the quarter.

Second quarter:

Waubonsie Valley went out to a seven point lead while Williams was out. He did return to the game. Kankakee stayed close as junior Cedric Terrell III had 5 points in the quarter, and senior Jordan Davis had 4. Coleman started percolating in the quarter as he had 6 points in the stanza. Waubonsie Valley outscored Kankakee 14-11 in the quarter to take a 27-23 lead into the locker room.

Third quarter:

Both Thompson and Coleman picked up the offense for their respective teams in the quarter. Thompson scored 14 points, Coleman 11 as the game was back and forth. Coleman ended the quarter with a three at the buzzer to give Waubonsie Valley a 43-40 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter:

Coleman took over, hitting a big three when Kankakee had a communication issue guarding him. Williams was put on Coleman for the fourth quarter and a mix up allowed Coleman to hit the open three. Then senior Moses Wilson of Waubonsie Valley had a big steal and layup to give them separation and keep the lead for good. Kankakee was outrebounded 38-14 for the game.

SOUTH BELIOT, IL:

Big time game that went to double overtime. Lutheran (Rockford)'s three point shooting kept them in the game and eventually won it. They had a tough time with Northern Michigan commit 6'8" Ross Robertson of South Beliot. One of the top three post players in the state. He had 37 points and 20 rebounds (30/20) before fouling at the 2 minute mark in second overtime. Scored through 2 and 3 players on him at times. He was surrounded and still scored. Junior Mason Keller was huge for Lutheran (Rockford) down the stretch in fourth quarter and the overtimes.
