Robert Smith's last game coaching in Chicago Area was a rousing success. They just put a stranglehold on Hillcrest's offense and was efficient with their own offense enroute to an easy win. On to Champaign they go once again in Class 3A State Finals. Simeon only played six guys and started Stonybrook commit Kaiden Space who had been coming off the bench.
#2 Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) 67 #6 Hillcrest (Country Club Hills) 46: Hillcrest never led. Simeon jumped all over Hillcrest from the start and keep their foot on their throat throughout the game. Simeon led 21-10 after one quarter, 34-23 at half, and 52-33 after three quarters. Hillcrest had a hard time attacking the basket as the Rubin twins closed down the lane. Hillcrest went 4 for 15 from three. They needed to shoot a decent percentage from there to have a shot in this game. Simeon held Akron commit Darrion Baker (6'9") to 6 points. Simeon hit 8 of 13 from three and was just as effective in the paint.
RUBIN TWINS CLOSED THE PAINT FOR BUSINESS: Miles Rubin (6'10") is the best shot blocker in the state and one of the best in the last five years. Loyola Chicago commit had only 2 blocks, but altered many more shots. He had 13 points and 5 assists. Wes Rubin (6'9") plays all over the court. Northern Iowa commit had 13 points 10 rebounds (double/double) 5 assists 2 steals. Did not block a shot but altered about 5 or six. Twin towers are a terror for opponents.
SAM LEWIS WAS HOT FROM THREE: 6'7" Toledo commit went 3 for 4 from three along with attacking the rim. He had 17 points and stretched the defense. X-Factor on the wing for Simeon, and makes them tough to deal with.
JALEN GRIFFITH CONTROLLED THINGS ONCE AGAIN: His matchup with Hillcrest Bryce "Diggy" Tillery was one to watch for tonight. He had enough of an edge for most of the game as a floor general. Jacksonville commit gets where he wants on offense, and has quick hands on defense. He had 15 points (4 of 8 shooting, 2 of 4 from three) and 4 assists. Did not record a steal but had a lot of deflections.
BRYCE TILLERY DID ALL HE COULD FOR HILLCREST: He left it all on the court in his last high school game. He didn't shoot well from three, but hit a lot of shots in the paint area. He had 18 points 2 rebounds and 4 steals. He was the only Hillcrest player in double figures.
Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) goes to 31-3 and advances to the State Semifinals against St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago), whom they lost to in third place game last season.
Hillcrest (Country Club Hills) ends season at 29-4.
