Happy Christmas to everyone!!!! Some decent quarterfinal games and left with Waukegan vs Sycamore, and Hersey vs Shepard semifinal matchups!!!!!
College coaches tap in on these under the radar prospects:
CHARLIE POMIS, HERSEY (ARLINGTON HEIGHTS): King of Bounce 6'3" senior combo guard was dominant as he has been for his senior season. Making up for lost time as he missed the Spring and Summer circuit with knee injury. He's 100% now and showing it in his senior season. Played with Elevate aka Fundamental U. Division One type athlete with three level scoring, would be a steal for division two schools. He did three level scoring, started the game with a nasty tomahawk dunk off the jump ball. Exploded for 18 points in third quarter vs North (St Charles), and scored 35 on 5/8 from three, and had 2 other dunks in the game. Quickness and anticipation on defense got two steals and breakway dunks. Received an offer from Lewis (D2) immediately after the game.
LOGAN LUXEM, HERSEY (ARLINGTON HEIGHTS): 6'3" senior point guard has good size for the position, vision to make nice passes through traffic and long passes to cutters. ball handling to split defenses in half court and full court, has eyes up at all times to see the floor. Oh he can shoot it from deep off the catch or the bounce. Finishes at the rim through and around contact. Dunks with ease so has the athleticism to affect a game. Played with Full Package Athletics in Spring and Summer.
ISAIAH FEUERBACH, SYCAMORE: 6'5" wing is a do everything player. He can score on all three levels of the court, smooth stroke from three, hits the glass well on both ends, plays hard all the time, and is a good passer. Got a tip rebound going out of his area to get it to a teammate. Has missed last two Spring and Summers with injuries trying to play with Breakaway Basketball. Has two sisters playing division one college basketball, Kylie at Iowa, and Faith at St Thomas. Basketball family. College scholarship player and will make some team happy.
LEDARRELL GOSS-EL, LAKE VIEW (CHICAGO): 6'3" combo guard is a two end force. Scores on attacks to the rim, up and under Euro step finishes, and can explode and dunk on defenders. Shoots the three well as he hit 3/6 from long range vs Sycamore. Adds slashing game to the rim to his arsenal, and defends every perimeter positon using quick hands on the ball to get steals, and jumps passing lanes to steal the ball. Played travel ball with the Chicago Bulldogs.
JAALI "RICO" LOVE, WAUKEGAN: 6'7" wing is a vastly improved skilled perimeter player. Came into high school at Manley (Chicago) as an inside player, primarily a rebounder and shot blocker. Young man has worked hard to improve his handle, three point shot, slashing game. He's also playing more in control picking and choosing when to slash, when to shoot, and when to pass. Two end monster that jumps in passing lanes to get steals, and guard on the perimeter. Oh can still rebound and rim protect at a high level. He also plays hard and is still an energy guy as well. Nice young man with a great smile.
FRESHMAN WITH A LOT OF POTENTIAL TO BE TOP 5 IN THE CLASS:
MILES MARABELLA, ANTIOCH: 6'4" point guard is getting an education in running a team. Had a rough game vs Waukegan against their press. Had a number of turnovers and tried to do a little too much. The talent is there and as he gets more and more experience he's going to be a monster. Projectable size for the position already, may grow some more inches. Nice smooth delivery on his jumper, long arms to disrupt on defense. Ball handling is very good. Decision making will improve with time. Big Tim opinion has the hardest job of any freshman in high school basketball in Illinois, trying to run a team in his first month of high school basketball. It will pay off at the end for this young man. Early one to get in on college coaches.
Waukegan blows out Antioch, though a freshman had a rough game vs the press, showed his future potential:
Waukegan had 22 steals in game vs Antioch. Played once again without senior Simereon Carter. Leaders were seniors Trey'Veon Roberts (#2) with 18 points 4 assists 3 steals, Jaali "Rico" Love (#3) with 16 points 5 rebounds 1 steal 1 block, Adrian Serrano (#11) with 13 points 5 steals. Senior Carson Newsome (#0) didn't score but dominated with 5 rebounds 6 assists and 5 steals. Antioch was led by senior Mark Render with 12 points.
Sycamore wins back and forth affair over Lake View (Chicago). Lake View led 22-11 at end of first quarter, but Sycamore dominated the second quarter outscoring Lake View 23-5 to take a 34-26 lead at half. Lake View cut lead to 49-44 at end of thrid quarter, took a couple of brief leads in the fourth quarter, before Sycamore made some big plays down the stretch to take it. Sycamore was led by senior Isaiah Feuerbach (#20) with 23 points 13 rebounds (double/double) 2 steals. Junior Xander Lewis(#13) had 16 points 1 steal and 1 block. Lake View was led by senior Ledarrell Goss-El (#10) with 26 points 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Senior Isaiah Betancourt had 12 points 1 block, Junior Tysean Davis had 11 points 1 steal and 1 block.
Senior Charlie Pomis (#3) of Hersey (Arlington Heights) is a King of Bounce who started the game right off the jump ball with a tomahawk dunk off pass from fellow senior Logan Luxem. Lead wire to wire in blowout win. Pomis had 35 points (18 in the third quarter) 7 rebounds 5 assists 2 steals, and a partridge in a pear tree. Luxem ran the offense and made some slick passes through traffic. Had 12 points 8 assists 2 steals and 1 block. Junior Jake Nawrot (#21) is the quarterback in football, and a pretty good basketball player to boot. Had 14 points 3 rebounds. North (St Charles) was led by senior Cooper Mellican (#23) with 20 points 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Classmates Jake Love had 9 points 1 steal, and EJ Mondesir had 9 points 4 rebounds and 1 block.
Shepard's balance ruled the day over big time individual talent junior Max Beard (#5) of Woodstock. It was a tight game till Shepard (Palos Hills) ran away in the last three minutes of the game. Shepard was led by Seniors Pete Primbas (#4) with 14 points, Danny McGovern (#11) with 14 points 3 steals, and Zach Cosme (#12) with 13 points 1 steal off the bench. Woodstock was led by Beard 21 points 11 rebounds (double/double), and senior Ty Steponitis with 10 points 7 rebounds 1 steal off the bench.
