First game at Waukegan was a good one. Warren dominated the first half, Waukegan came back with a big third quarter till Jaxson Davis took over the fourth quarter. Warren did not need that this time as they lead from the start and dominated the second half and made it a running clock in the win. Here we go:
#13 Warren Township (Gurnee) 91 Waukegan 63: This one was dominated by Warren from the beginning. They led the entire game but the first quarter was close as it was 20-17 Warren at end of it after senior Joseph Worthington of Waukegan hit a long three at the quarter buzzer. Warren and Davis just grabbed a hold of the game in the second quarter and led 45-29 at halftime. Led by 22 at end of third quarter, then it was a question if the running clock would come into play. It did with a basket from Javerion Banks with about 2 in a half minutes left in the game. Defense held senior Nehemiah Dunn who put up 31 points in the last meeting to 3 points. He did go out in the third quarter with an elbow issue. I'm told he'll be fine and should play in the next game. Waukegan was fighting for the game not to become a running clock. Sophomore Simereon Carter hit a couple of threes to keep it around a 26 to 27 point deficit, but it ended up happening anyway. Davis made a move in the fourth quarter that had people silent. He was driving left to the basket, stopped his body in the middle of the lane, which froze the defender, then he went to the basket and scored easily leaving his defender behind wondering what happened? Warren Township (Gurnee) upped it's record to 24-4 and kept 1 game behind Lake Forest in North Suburban Conference race at 9-2. Waukegan dropped to 15-10, 5-6 in conference. Big game coming up for Warren at Lake Forest on Tuesday to try and get into first place.
