SCHAUMBURG, ILLINOIS: Girls IHSA Class 4A Supersectional at Schaumburg High School. As I said a tight one right down to the last minute. Geneva held on for a four point victory avenging the four point regular season loss to Barrington. Here we go:

Geneva 51 Barrington 47: This was nip and tuck all the way with big time plays being made by big time players down the stretch. Geneva went out to a 9-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game. Timeout Barrington. It helped as they worked their way back into the game as the first quarter ended with both teams tied at 11. Junior forward Gwen Adler (5'11") hit a layup at the first quarter buzzer to tie it. They kept trading baskets in the second quarter as halftime found Barrington leading 25-24. The rest of the game neither team could get more than a 5 point lead until the last minute of the game. The third quarter ended in a 34 all tie. Geneva finally took a 6 point lead with 2 minutes to go, hit some free throws to stay ahead, as Barrington missed two free throws with a chance to cut it to 2 with 30 seconds left. Junior Caroline Madden hit two free throws with 9 seconds left after getting fouled for the final margin.

LAUREN SLAGLE HIT SOME TIMELY SHOTS IN SECOND HALF: 6'1" senior forward for Geneva did not want this to be her final game. She made some timely drives and baskets at the rim. The lefty had 10 of her 13 points in the second half. Added 3 rebounds to her total.

LEAH PALMER WAS INSIDE/OUTSIDE PERFORMER: 5'11" junior wing for Geneva was 3 for 4 from three but also hit 5 of 9 on two point shots in the paint. She also had some key offensive rebounds with 3 of her 5 rebounds coming in that variety. Had team leading 20 points.

CAROLINE MADDEN WAS STAT SHEET STUFFER TONIGHT: 5'7" junior guard had 9 points 3 rebounds 3 assists 3 steals tonight for Geneva helping out in a variety of ways.

GWEN ADLER WAS A BEAST ON THE BOARDS: 5'11" junior forward had 15 points 15 rebounds (double/double) 5 assists 1 steal and 1 block.for Barrington in loss. She did everything she could on both ends to try and help her team advance. Seton Hall Volleyball recruit.

MOLLY O'RIORDAN WAS AN INSIDE/OUTSIDE FORCE: 6'2" junior forward for Barrington had 20 points (3 for 6 from three) 5 rebounds and 4 blocks. Had some nice baskets at the rim and floated out to hit some threes. She was a rim protector in the paint as she changed some shots. She's already a 1000 point scorer for the Fillies.

SOPHIE SWANSON NOT PLAYING WAS HUGE: The 5'11" senior star guard got injured in the first round of the regionals. Purdue commit was averaging over 20 points a game this season. She's had over 2000 points for her career. Would have been great to see her talent on the court tonight.

KUDOS TO BARRINGTON TOO: These young ladies got together after Swanson's injury and won regional and sectional and was a whisker from getting back to the State Finals. Everyone gave a little more of themselves to not use that as a crutch and played hard tonight and kept this game close throughout.

Congrats to Geneva Girls Basketball and blessings downstate at Illinois State University for the semifinals.
