Glenbard West Finishes Wire To Wire Run as Number One with Class 4A State Title!!!!!!

Historic!!!!!! I’ve felt this way about this team since I saw them in open gym in October. I did not say anything to the players, coaches, or anyone in the program. I did not want to jinx it for them, but I have said this to my basketball hoophead friends all year long. They just had to finish it. I said to a couple of them at the time “this team is special”. They did not lose to an Illinois team all year. They laid waste to every Illinois opponent but two. Glenbrook South(Glenview) and Hillcrest(Country Club Hills) lost to them by 3. They did not have Paxton Warden in the Hillcrest game and you could tell that was the gap in the back of the now famous 1-3-1 zone defense. Their last closest game was 12 points in their third match up vs conference foe Lyons Township(LaGrange) at their gym. After that they went on a tour de force where their closest game was the title game last night. They beat Whitney Young(who could have won a State Title in most years), 56-34. That one could have been worse but they stepped off the gas in the last three minutes of the game. This special and historic team had 5 players who could go off at anytime. Last night it was Illinois walk-on Paxton Warden who had 21 points on 3 for 4 from three on his future homecourt. What a way to go out!!!!!!! Gonzaga commit Braden Huff, the best player in the state had 19 points and 5 assists. They outscored Whitney Young by themselves. This is the second time this year they’ve beaten Whitney Young. I’ll do a write up later on the historical context of this team. These last names will be famous in Illinois High School Basketball History forever. Huff, Pierce, Durkin, Warden, and Renfro. You guys did it #BK32 always.
