Hinsdale Central Holiday Tournament Preview!!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

This tournament has grown in popularity over the years since Joe Spagnola took over organizing the tournament. He was the long time organizer of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament and has made this one a destination. Here we go:

FAVORITE: Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights): They have played a tough schedule which will help them win this tournament. The leader is 6'5" senior guard Cal Poly commit Quentin Jones is one of the most underrated players in the state. He's a two end player who can change the game on either end of the court. Other top players are 6'3" senior guard Dominic Juzang who can hit three pointers, 6'7" junior forward James Bullock, and 5'11" senior point guard Tre Davis.

SECOND FAVORITE: East (Oswego): Towson commit 6'7" wing Mekhi Lowery is another two way monster on the court, a double/double machine for this team. They have a 10-2 record coming in just out of my rankings. Senior wing Ryan Johnson along with senior guard Mason Blanco support Lowery, 5'10" point guard Bryce Shoot runs the show.

DARKHORSE/ UNKNOWN QUANTITY: DePaul College Prep (Chicago): They have a 5-4 record but it is deceiving as they have not had star juniors 6'7" wing Jaylan McElroy and 6'8" wing Payton Kamin for some time. They have players who are gaining experience like 6'2" junior Guard PJ Chambers, 6'0"senior guard Maurice Thomas, and 6'7" sophomore Jonas Johnson have tried to take the team forward. If they are at full strength look out.

Hinsdale Central: The hosts will be a tough out as they have a big time scorer in 6'6" senior wing Ben Oosterbaan along with a lot of size in 6'4" guard Emerson Eck, 6'5" center Matas Andrikonis, 6'4" forward Billy Cernugel, and 6'5" forward Chase Covington all seniors. The point guard is 5'11" Evan Phillips who runs the show.
