Yorkville Christian is the heavy favorite here. I’ll do write-up about them and their opponent.
Game 1 Thursday Steeleville(29-6)vs #24 Christian(Yorkville)(23-13) 10 am:
Trump card in this class is Duke commit guard Jaden Schutt(6’5”) who is a professional scorer. He can score on all three levels, can jump out of the gym. He knows how to use his size to post up smaller defenders just off the block. Has a nice fall away jumper. Teammates play off him very well. Senior guards KJ Vasser(6’2”) and Tyler Burrows can hit the three at a high rate. Junior guard David Douglas Jr(6’3”) and Braden Long(6’4”), who’s coming off injury, can stroke the three too. Long does the dirty work inside on defense and hustles for rebounds. Spreads the floor and makes teams guard every inch of it, as all can take you off the dribble. Yorkville Christian has won their playoff games by an average of 44 points. Have played one of the toughest schedules in the state with a lot of 3A and 4A teams on it. Beat Supersectional 4A team Kenwood Academy(Chicago) at Orr Breast Cancer Shootout.
Game 2 Liberty(29-5) vs Scales Mound(35-2): Scales Mound took Class 2A Supersectional team Leo Catholic to the wire in a 55-50 loss at Quincy Shootout. Have played together since third grade.
