Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

The State Playoffs really started tonight, March Madness, one and done, survive and advance as EVERY GAME WAS PLAYED TONIGHT(IHSA SMH)!!!!!!!! I was in Maywood, IL Home of the late great Fred Hampton, oh and he went to Proviso East. Historic basketball gym and basketball place as you'll see with the pictures I posted. I am writing this real late painting the town black and howling at the moon(just kidding). No superlatives tonight as too may games and too many great performances. Here we go:

#18 Lyons Township(LaGrange) 49 Leyden 36: No one was in double figures but the top seed in this regional advanced.

Proviso East 71 Lincoln Park(Chicago) 70 Overtime: This was a back and forth game with turnovers, great lays, turnovers, great plays, inconsistent officiating but we were tied at 65 in regulation. No one scored the first couple of minutes in overtime, but Lincoln Park led 70-69 when junior Diamonte Meeks drove the lane and scored with 15 seconds left. Lincoln Park calls a timeout with 10 seconds left. Senior Chikere Nwoso shoot a 25 footer that missed and Proviso East junior Jaloni Johnson got the huge rebound at the buzzer then Proviso East students rushed the floor. Survive and advance. Senior Dakari Presley played like he didn't want his high school career to end with 29 points 3 rebounds 3 assists and 5 steals. Jaloni Johnson had 17 points 8 rebounds 2 steals. Senior Javon Johnson 12 points 2 steals. Lincoln Park was led by senior Chris Hammonds with 24 points 4 rebounds but did not score the last 12 minutes of the game. Nwoso had a double double 13 points 14 rebounds 6 assists in final high school game. Junior Myan Whitfield had 15 points. Lincoln Park's future is bright as both freshman forward Keshawn Barfield(6'9") and point guard Vincent Kelly(5'10") played a lot of minutes. Barfield had 9 rebounds, Kelly had 8 points 7 rebounds 4 assists and 3 steals. Proviso East goes to 22-7, while Lincoln Park ends it's season at 15-14.

I'll mention Ridgewood beat Quest tonight 88-83 in SEVEN OVERTIMES!!!!! THAT'S RIGHT SEVEN OVERTIMES!!!!!!!!! Congrats on advancing Ridgewood.
