IHSA cancels basketball season due to coronavirus threat!!!!!!!!!!!

The Class 1A and 2A Teams, 8 of them had made the trip to Peoria and was ready to compete for the State Title. Madison,Aurora Christian,Goreville, and Roanoke Benson in Class 1A, 3 time defending champ Orr(Chicago),Breese Mater Dei,Timothy Christian(Elmhurst), and Sacred Heart Griffin(Springfield) in Class 2A. Then the bomb was dropped earlier this evening that all State Tournament Basketball Games were cancelled. I won't say the expense of having those teams travel to Peoria, only to have the rug pulled from them is enough. Benet(Lisle) and Hinsdale South(Darien) was going to play a Class 3A Sectional Semifinal tonight but had the rug pulled from under them. I myself do not agree with the decision with the information I had, I will admit I may be in the dark about everything that came from the Peoria Health Department. It's sad that not only the seniors, but the teams do not get to finish what they started in early November. The hard work, the blood, the sweat, the tears, the injuries these young men went through, all for naught. They did all this so they could compete for a State Title. Teams that win State Titles are remembered forever by their schools, and their towns. Some kids were trying to solidify scholarships by their play at the State Finals. None of that is going to happen because the IHSA could not figure out a way to just postpone the tournament and maybe play it next month. I see a lack of patience and pressure from other entities to follow suit is why it was cancelled. Governor Pritzker had said that athletic events could be played with 250 people or under. IHSA put a plan in place with the help of the Peoria Medical professionals, that said 60 fans per team would be suitable. IHSA put this in place for the rest of the playoffs, I wonder what changed from that plan? Did they give in to outside pressure? We will never know, just a lot of sad kids right now wondering what happened. It's sad to see these great teams not be able to finish their seasons. Three time defending champion Orr was trying to get into the record books for 4 straight titles, joining Manual(Peoria) in 1994-1997, and Simeon(Chicago) 2010-2013. They will never get that chance. Evanston's junior class trying to make history making 4 straight State Finals in a row. That will not happen. Thornton(Harvey) trying to finish off an unexpected great season with a State Title. No one expected them to be this kind of powerhouse this season. Best coaching job Tai Streets has done in Harvey. They will finish 32-1 a fabulous season incomplete. Morgan Park's Adam Miller, Marcus Watson Jr, and Isaiah Burrell trying to win 3 Class 3A State Titles in 4 years. That will not happen. Hampshire and Aurora(East) putting together fabulous cinderella runs in Class 3A and 4A respecttively. Bogan(Chicago) trying to redeem themselves from a runner up finish last year in Class 3A, lost on a missed box out in the last 2 seconds of regulation. Won't happen. Loyola Academy(Wilmette) trying to stop Evanston Township's run of State Finals. Evanston Township has eliminated them from the State Playoffs 3 years running. No opportunity to do that. There are many other story lines but these stand out to me. This incomplete ending does not sit well with me and a number of people, but I do understand erring on the side of safety. Does not mean it was the right thing to do in this circumstance. Off my soap box now.
