IHSA Class 1A Boys Supersectional Preview Chicago Area Teams!!!!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

There are two teams left in this class and interestingly they do not play each other. One has to play a team who was in Champaign last season, and the other is way under the radar because of their record. I haven't seen them play this year so preview of them will be incomplete. Here we go:

Marshall (Chicago) vs Scales Mound at DeKalb (Northern Illinois University): Do not know much about Scales Mound or what they returned from last season. I will though do a preview of Marshall. This is a rematch from last years Supersectional when Scales Mound won 55-41 with all seniors. Scales Mound has a new lineup this year.

Marshall (Chicago) tied for the Chicago Public League White West title but will not move up on tiebreaker. They have 10 losses on the season, but are huge on the interior and this is where they will have to make hay. Start with Joel Brown (6'8" senior forward) a double/double machine and should get all-state honors. They also have Ja'Juan Cozark (6'6" senior forward) and Antonio Tyler (6'8" junior forward). Should rule the glass. Guard play has been very good, has had to in order to get this far. Daveon Brown (5'9" senior point guard), Marquise Williams (6'0" junior guard) and Elijah Garrett (6'3" junior wing) will have to protect the basket and feed the big men regularly. Off the bench is Jalin Jackson (5'11" forward), and Keith Currin (5'10" junior guard).

Scales Mound (31-5) are not a Chicago Area team but there is some information out on them. They are trying to make a return trip to Champaign. Top players are senior guard Jacob Duerr (6'0"), Thomas Hereau (6'2" junior guard), and Charlie Wiegel (5'9" junior point guard). Tallest player is 6'3" they will try to get a lead and spread Marshall out to make them chase the ball. Finished third last year.

St Frances DeSales (Chicago) is 14-21 and played an independent schedule. I've heard good things about them turning the program around. Well they are in a Supersectional and one game from Champaign. These are their top players from what I could find: Cyril Nichols Jr (6'7" junior forward), Chamari Malone (6'5" senior guard) and Brandon Lowe Jr (6'6" senior wing). Played in the Big Dipper Holiday Tournament.
