This game is on a neutral court at Conant High School in Schaumburg. Both earlier games were decided by single digits. This to me is the best regional final game of the night. Here we go:
#5 seed Evanston Township vs #4 seed Glenbrook South (Glenview): These teams tied for third in Central Suburban South race. Both won their home games in the regular season, Evanston won by two at home, had a good lead until a bunch of missed free throws at the end made it close. Glenbrook South won their home game by seven points and led the entire game. Expect tonight to be a war as this is win or go home, and the teams seem very evenly matched and similar resumes.
Evanston Township (24-8): They had five senior transfers come in the summer. With Coach Ellis system it usually takes a year to get the hang of it. This had to be a quick job to work in Hunter Duncan (St Viator), Josh Thomas (Stevenson), Ephraim Chase(Sullivan), Collin McDonald (Loyola Academy), and Nic Raic (Libertyville). Raic has played sparingly this season as he had knee surgery. Duncan and Thomas are the only starters of this crew. With the talent and tough schedule they have won over 20 games but have been up and down with their outside shooting. To win tonight they will have to take care of the ball, hit the glass, and hit shots from outside in the dribble drive offense. Will have to be disciplined enough on defense to clamp down, and may have to play a minute straight on a lot of possessions. Also try to get out in transition to get some easy buckets. Prince Adams has to rim protect and stay out of foul trouble.
Glenbrook South (Glenview) (24-8): Came off best season in school history last year. First Sectional title ever and most wins ever. Lost two division one players and have come back strong. Returners Rodell Davis Jr, Gavin Marr both seniors have stepped up this year to provide scoring. Marr is a very good passer and rebounder. They have gotten assistance from juniors Nate Kasher and Nick Taylor. Kasher is a knockdown three point shooter, and Taylor is good on the glass. They've played a tough scheduled and lost to Rolling Meadows twice and New Trier twice. Have been ranked most of the season. To win tonight they have to take care of the basketball, run their offense and make good cuts off the ball, hit the defensive glass hard. Will have to shoot well from outside and play at their tempo.
Winner of this game will likely face top seed New Trier (Winnetka) on New Trier's home floor in Sectional Both have lost to the Trevians twice. Could the third time be a charm?
