I'll breakdown each sectional, the favorite, the sleeper, trap games, and notes. Here we go:
DEFENDING CHAMP: Gibault Catholic (Waterloo)
They lost a lot and are 17-14 so would have to make a miracle run to repeat.
ISU (NORMAL) SUPERSECTIONAL:
Salt Fork (Caitlin) Sectional:
Favorite: St Thomas More (Champaign)
Orr (Chicago) Sectional:
Favorite: Horizon Southwest (Chicago)
Won Chicago Public League Blue Title. Have some talent in seniors Ahmet Unal, Fred Boyd, and Kaivon Payton. Have some size in senior Jalen Llyod.
Darkhorse: Manley (Chicago)
Have two of the top talents in Class A in senior Jonathan Calmese and sophomore Jaali Love. Good mix of youth and experience. Won the Chicago Public League White Title for second year in a row.
Top possible regional final:
Manley (Chicago) vs Marshall (Chicago):
Marshall beat Manley on the road in early December. This has become a rivalry and Marshall has been to two straight supersectionals. Looking to get there again and complete the job this time. Senior big man Antonio Tyler is a returnee for Marshall along with senior Marquis Williams.
EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY (CHARLESTON) SUPERSECTIONAL:
St Anthony (Effingham) Sectional:
Favorite: St Anthony (Effingham)
They've been the #1 team in Class 1A most of the season.
NC Omaha Enfield (Norris City) Sectional:
Favorite: Waltonville
Darkhorse: Gibault Catholic (Waterloo)
NIU (DEKALB) SUPERSECTIONAL:
Harvest Christian Academy (Elgin) Sectional:
Favorite: Serena
Darkhorse: Christian (Aurora)
Have a nice 1/2 punch in senior wing Cam Morel and sophomore Marshawn Cocroft. Could easily win this sectional.
Top possible regional game:
Earlville vs Christian (Yorkville):
Christian (Yorkville) is young but talented. No seniors. A lot of shooters around sophomore point guard Jayden Riley. Juniors Zach Marini, Brady Sovern, with freshman Jordan Purvis, and Tray Alford. Junior big Noah Aguado will be key moving forward. Top players for Earlville are seniors Ryan Browder, Griffin Cook, and Trenton Fruit. Junior Adam Waite is another contributor.
River Ridge (Hanover) Sectional:
Favorite: Pecatonica
Top players are juniors Cooper Hoffman and sharpshooter Jaxon Dietrich
Darkhorse: South Beloit
Has the best player in the sectional in double/double machine Ross Robertson. Just needs a little more assistance from the guards hitting perimeter shots.
JACKSONVILLE BOWL (JACKSONVILLE) SUPERSECTIONAL:
A-Avon (Abingdon) Sectional:
Favorite: Illini Bluffs (Glasford)
Not many Class A teams have a big like Belmont commit Hank Alvey. Can the guards get it inside enough for him to do damage? A double/double machine.
Darkhorse: Delavan
Watch out for senior guards AJ Seaton, Cooper Hansen, and Micah Brickhouse
North Greene (White Hall) Sectional:
Favorite: Winchester (Coop)
