Junior point guard AJ Demirov's efficient night guided Crystal Lake South to a win over McHenry. Helps keep their huge lead in Fox Valley Conference!!!! Tragedy in South Suburbs, and top performances!

Writer's picture: Big TimBig Tim

Long drive out to the Fox Valley area, and the basketball was bumpy at best (you choose who to blame there I'll hold my tongue) but Crystal Lake South won by double digits. Tragedy was last night and I'll go into it later in the post. Here we go:

South (Crystal Lake) 66 McHenry 47: This win gives the Gators a 4 game lead. Game was tied at 11 at end of one. Crystal Lake South took over in the second quarter and took a 34-22 lead into the locker room. They led 45-32 at the end of three. Crystal Lake South did have some trouble with McHenry's press in the fourth quarter, but did enough at the lead never got below 9. Free throws by Demirov at the end kept McHenry at bay. Crystal Lake South ups it's record to 21-2, 12-0 in conference and grabs at least a four game lead over every other conference opponent. McHenry drops to 17-6, 7-4 in conference.

Crystal Lake South top performers:

AJ Demirov, 6'0" junior point guard took what was given to him as he was double teamed and tripled teamed all night as McHenry played zone and watched wherever he went. Stat line 26 points (5 threes, 11 free throws) 2 rebounds 2 assists and 4 steals.

Christian Rohde, 6'8" senior center's stat line will not blow you away, but he was effective at rim protecting. Stat line 9 points 7 rebounds 1 assist 1 steal and 2 blocks.

Carson Trivellini, 6'0" freshman combo guard supported Demirov hitting 14 points 2 rebounds 2 assists and 2 steals. Scored from three and on mid range pull-up jumpers. Futures bet.

McHenry rop performers:

Caleb Jett, 6'4" junior guard got to the free throw line and scored on a couple of drives to the rim. Stat line 12 points (6 free throws) 2 rebounds and 3 steals.

Adam Anwar, 6'7" sophomore forward scored from inside and out. Stat line 12 points ( 2 threes) 4 rebounds 1 assist 3 steals and 1 block.

Tragedy in the South Suburbs: Freshman girls junior varsity basketball player Amari Crite of Momence passed away last night on the basketball court. She was running back on defense and collapsed and did not regain consciousness. As a parent I can't fathom something like that happening. Condolence to the family and the Momence community. Here's the GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/laying-amari-to-rest.
