Lake Zurich wins a tight game against conference foe Libertyville!!! Top performances in Illinois

Lake Zurich won in another tight game for them this season. They've been snake bitten in other close games agains top teams. This one they took care of business in the fourth quarter. Here we go:




Lake Zurich 58 Libertyville 54: This was a back and forth affair as Libertyville took a 16-8 lead at end of first quarter on a 9-1 run. Lake Zurich came back on the strength of 15 first half points by sophomore Kam Kretschmar to cut it to 28-24 at half. Lake Zurich went on a 8-0 run to start third quarter which started with Libertyville senior Ben Van Lyssel icing up his 4th foul. Sophomore Bryce Wegrzyn picked up the scoring pace for Libertyville as he hit 14 of his 20 points in the second half. Lake Zurich on the strength of that run lead 44-39 to end the third quarter. It was a back and forth affair in the fourth quarter as neither team led by more than 4 points in the stanza. Senior Nick Popovic and junior Connor Strauss hit two free throws each in the last 15 seconds to secure the 4 point margin. Junior Liam Hanson led Libertyville with 26 points 8 rebounds 3 assists 3 steals and 3 blocks. Four Libertyville players scored the entire game. Lake Zurich ups it's record to 6-3, 3-1 in North Suburban Conference. Libertyville drops to 3-7, 0-3 in North Suburban Conference.


Kam Kretschmar, 6'3" sophomore guard, Lake Zurich:


Big time scorer who had 24 points (5 threes) 7 rebounds 1 assist 1 steal and hit some driving layups and a mid range pull-up jump shot.





Nick Popovic, 6'3" senior wing, Lake Zurich:


Did a little bit of everything tonight in scoring 10 points 5 rebounds 4 assists 1 steal. Hit two free throws to put the lead to 4 at end of the game.





Connor Strauss, 6'4" junior wing, Lake Zurich:


Scored inside on drives tonight and hit a couple of free throws for his 10 points 5 rebounds 2 assists. Hit two free throws to give Lake Zurich the lead.




Anton Streinikov, 6'8" junior forward, Lake Zurich:


Strong game in the paint though he only scored one field goal. He drew fouls and got to the free throw line for 6 of his 8 points 7 rebounds 1 assists and two blocks.





Keyon Haynes, 6'5" senior forward came off the bench and got 2 of his 4 blocked shots in first 10 seconds he came in. Three sport star (football, basketball, volleyball) and wide receiver showed he can spike shots as well as he does volleyballs. He scored 2 points and 1 steal, but his rim protecting was key in this game.
