Top performances in the state for boys basketball. This was pretty much 3 vs 1 and the one almost won it for Waubonsie Valley (Aurora). Here we go:

Central (Naperville) 68 Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) 65 Final:

I don't usually go to a lot of girls basketball regular season games, but I've been to more this year than I ever have. This one was one of the best games I've seen all year boys or girls. Both teams fought for every rebound, every loose ball, and quality of play was sublime. I think Mporokoso just got tired in the 4th quarter. Squeezed off 38 shots for the game.

Wild turn in this game. You had Mporokoso pick up her third foul with 6 minutes left in the second quarter. She was left in the game and did not commit her 4th until late in the fourth quarter. Jones got off to a slow start offensively shooting a few air balls (though it looked like she got fouled on a couple of them getting hit on the arm). 5'7" senior guard Carthage College commit and three sport athlete (soccer, golf) Erin Hackett had a steady burn of scoring throughout the game. She went over 2000 points for her career with her 26th point of the game in the fourth quarter. Waubonsie Valley led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, Naperville Central led 29-25 at recess as Mporokoso had 18 at the half. Then the third quarter started and Mporoskoso went nuts offensively. She hit 6 threes in a row in the quarter and ended up with 20 for the stanza. The quarter ended with 5'5" senior point guard Arianna Garcia hitting a bank three point shot from halfcourt at the buzzer to give Waubonsie Valley a 51-49 lead. Fourth quarter the game went back and forth though Mporokoso went cold. Jones showed the McDonald's All-American that she is and started getting into the paint and shooting over defenders. She was doubled and triple teamed the entire game, and started shooting over two defenders and scoring. Sophomore Sophia Cochran got some key defensive rebounds late in the game. Hackett hit a key three, and Jones hit four free throws in the last 20 seconds to give Central (Napervile) a three point lead. Mporokoso had one last chance to tie the game with a three from the top of the key and missed. Cochran got the rebound and buzzer sounded. Kritzer also finished with a double/double as did Jones.

Central (Naperville) goes to 24-6, 9-1 in the DuPage Valley Conference, takes the title into the playoffs. Waubonsie Valley (Aurora) drops to 28-2 (both losses to Central (Naperville)), 8-2 in DuPage Valley Conference. Could meet up a third time in the Class 4A East Aurora Sectional. Waubonsie Valley has made it to the State Finals and Supersectional the last two years.
