I was at the St Viator (Arlington Heights) Thanksgving tournament. This was the opener for #10 Evanston Township the overwhelming favorite to win the tournament. Their opponent Libertyville came in 1-0 with a win the night before over Prospect. Here's a synopsis of the game.
#10 Evanston Township 65 Libertyville 55. Libertyville's offense was running smooth in the first half and they led 31-29 at half-time on the strength of a 19-10 second quarter advantage. Senior guard Will Buchert had 16 points at halftime. Evanston Coach Mike Ellis made a defensive adjustment at halftime and switched to a zone defense. He is not known for playing zone, has been a man to man coach. I think he did it partly because his two big men, seniors Josh Thomas and Prince Adams had 2 fouls. Evanston went on a 14-0 run from late third quarter into the fourth quarter. Libertyville scored only 6 points in the third quarter. Buchert went scoreless in the second half till the last minute when he had 7 points for a total of 23 points. Evanston was led by senior guard Malachi Barnett with 16 points followed by senior point guard Hunter Duncan 13 points 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Senior forward Prince Adams had 10 points 7 rebounds 3 assists. Buchert had scoring assistance from senior forward Aidyn Boone with 24 points 7 rebounds to lead Libertyville. Evanston goes to 1-0, Libertyville drops to 1-1.
