I was in two places today, Rockford for the Tip Off Classic and at Loyola Academy for their Thanksgiving tournament. I'll put the scores for those games and superlatives for the day. Here we go:
RPS 205 Tip off Classic:
East (Rockford) 71 Frederick Douglass (Memphis, TN) 70: Senior guard Antonio Lewis made a driving layup with 1.2 seconds to play for the win. He had 17 points for the game. Leading scorer was junior JT Samuels with 19 points followed by sophomore Sterling Hoard with 17 points. Frederick Douglas was led by sophomore guard Taquez Butler's 21 points followed by senior forward Tyler Johnson's 17 points.
#3 Whitney Young (Chicago) 77 Auburn (Rockford) 65: Score was closer than the game indicated. Young led by 66-42 going into the fourth quarter. Dolphins were led by Princeton commit senior guard Dalen Davis 15 points along with senior wing Daniel Johnson's 15 points 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Freshman Marqius Clark had 9 points. Auburn was led by senior Adrian Agee's 15 points followed by junior Rakim Chaney's 14 points.
Guilford (Rockford) 52 Larkin (Elgin) 41: Guilford was led by 6'1" junior Cinco Gray's double/double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Larkin was led by Darnell Wilder with 14 points.
Loyola/ New Trier Thanksgiving Tournament:
#19 New Trier (Winnetka) 43 Loyola Academy (Wilmette) 35: Loyola did a great job on New Trier's Jake Fiegen, a Cornell commit from going off from three in the first half. He did not score and was in foul trouble. He came back to score 11 in the second half along with 7 rebounds. Loyola was led by junior Miles Boland's 17 points and 5 rebounds. Senior guard and University of Chicago soccer commit Evan Kanellos hit a half court three point bank shot at halftime buzzer. New Trier advances to the title game.
#13 St Ignatius College Prep (Chicago) 51 Lake Forest 49: Senior guard Richard Barron III, a George Mason commit hit the game winning basket on a pull-up mid range jumper with about 30 seconds left in the game. Lake Forest had a chance but missed a layup with about 7 seconds left. Barron III had 18 points and 3 steals for the St Ignatius. Junior Reggie Ray had 10 points. Lake Forest was led by a double/double from junior forward Tommy Aberle's double/double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Clemson commit Asa Thomas had 18 points. St Ignatius advances to the title game.
