Interesting Chicago Public League Red Star game on the West Side of Chicago. Game looked like a possible runaway for Marshall in first few minutes, but changed to North Lawndale for rest of the game. Here we go:

North Lawndale (Chicago) 66 Marshall (Chicago) 50:

Back in the building at Marshall High School famous for Hoop Dreams and Arthur Agee. The 1991 that won the City Title and finished third in the state. Well North Lawndale didn't care about that, they came in and took care of business. It did take a little time however.

First quarter:

Marshall went out to a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes. North Lawndale missed their first 4 threes. North Lawndale Head Coach Randy Stonewall pulled all 5 of his starters with 6 minutes to go in the first quarter. They sat few minutes but Marshall could not take advantage to get out to a big lead. Starters came back in a few at a time and they survived the quarter. Marshall led just 12-11 after one.

Second quarter:

Game completely changed as North Lawndale, namely 6'1" senior guard Tomorion Smith. He caught fire in the quarter hitting 4 of 5 from three, 5 of 6 overall for the quarter totalling 14 points. Marshall shot 3 for 13 from the floor for the quarter. Smith then hit a running three point shot at the halftime buzzer to give North Lawndale a 40-19 lead. Outscored Marshall 29-7 in the quarter. Freshman star Darrin "DJ" Laye picked up his third foul.

Third quarter:

Marshall cut into the lead as Laye kept attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line. Was 4 for 4 from the line in the quarter. Senior Jordan Scott hit 2 threes and 8 points for the quarter. Senior forward Ricky Stanciel had 7 points in the quarter. Marshall outscored North Lawndale 21-12 in the quarter to cut deficit to 52-40.

Fourth quarter:

Marshall cut lead to 10 three different times but could not cut into it. Everytime they had the opportunity, it resulted in a dead ball turnover. North Lawndale was very deliberate in the quarter and took advantage at the foul line. They hit 6 of 7 from the line to seal the game.
